Notes on mythology
This journal shows my personal research on various aspects of the mythological world. one week, I may focus on vampires, the next week, I may go in depth on a single story. Read only if you want. This week it's Dragons
Vampires, the missunderstood undead
The word 'vampire' did not actually exist as we know it until the 1800s. And when the word did come in to use, revenants and werewolves were confused with what we think of as vampires. But where did vampires come from? Many believe they came from pagan, vampire like Gods that people worshiped. One example of such a god is the Indian Goddess Kali. Often pictured covered in skulls, she was said to drink the blood of her defeated enemies. Whether or not the vampire is descended from pagan gods or not, no one can deny the hold such creatures have on our pop culture, thus making them more worshiped than ever before.
