Normally I'm not a fan of pumpkin. the only way I'll eat it is if i can't taste it.
Then one of mum's lil oldies have her this ratty looking pumpkin with several rotten spots. Rather than let it go to waste I followed a co workers advice, chopped it into chunks and steamed it to softness, then froze it for good measure. then me mum, took said frozen pumpkin, and turned it to soup for the oldies and I ended up trying a bit. Much to my surprise it was sweet?! Not something I associate with pumpkin and pretty tasty. I don't know what kind of pumpkin it was but damn it was good. Not a bit like the store bought pumpkin chunks. (yes, we in Aus can buy a pumpkin whole, halved or quartered at any given time of the year.)
Anyway, I saved some of the seeds and we'll have a crack at growing some of our own next year.
I always thought pumpkin pie was a waste of pastry but with that sort of pumpkin, I'd eat it with pleasure. I like sweet stuff. ^_^
