Kaarina hugged her knees, making circles in the dust of the wasteland around her. Her hair covered her face, and her arms and legs were covered in cuts and bruises.
Soon enough, a figure began walking towards Kaarina.
"Who are you?" She asked weakly as her circle became a shadow of who she feared.
"What are you doing?" A male voice from the figure asked softly.
"Whatever my mind allows." Kaarina answered now creating a butterfly in the dirt.
"Why is your mind only limited to horrid wastelands, then?" He asked.
"Because, there is no reason to think of anything else." She said drawing her spear.
"Kaarina look, there's nothing here that could hurt you." He said showing a pale hand.
"There's you. But something tells me...I can trust you." Kaarina replied softly, looking up with cold, lonely, blue eyes.
"And you can. Now let me help you up." The man said as Kaarina got up. Her matted hair and torn dress fluttered in the dessert-like wind. "Now listen to me, you need to leave this place. You need to wake up Kaarina." He said gripping her shoulders.
"I...will," She said as her eyes burned gold. "I will awaken, and I will no longer hide. He will hide from me." Two voices seemed to say.
"See you on the outside." The man said as they both began to fade.
"Kaarina, Kaarina, you awake?" Zekke said, his voice was blurred, but she heard it.
Kaarina's eyes, still gold, popped open and greeted Zekke with happiness. "Morning." She said quietly.
"Guess you heard me in your dream, eh?" He asked glad to see she wasn't screaming.
"It was the only one without Lithuite in it. Of course I listened." Kaarina said rubbing her eyes, causing them to go back to blue.
"Yeah, about Lithuite. Look, I talked with him and he said he wouldn't stop till either he was dead or you were." Zekke paused before he was cut off by Kaarina.
"Then I'll never have peace from him!" She yelled out putting her hands on her eyes.
"Hang on, I'm not finished. That's not really what I came to say, it just popped out." He confessed as Kaarina asked him what he meant. "Why don't we go for a walk, eh?" Zekke offered as she got up and out of bed and teetered back and forth. "Here, I'll help you walk. I know how badly that medicine can screw with you."
Kaarina then began to panic about the time. "It's still night! Won't he come?!"
"In a way that's what we want." Zekke murmured causing a confused Kaarina to ask what he said. "Nothing, look do you remember a little boy. With garnet eyes and raven hair?"
"Well, now that you mention it, yes I do. Why?" She asked beyond her point of confusion.
"That little boy had a younger brother. His brother loved pulling pranks, mainly ones that hurt people. But one day, he saw a very beautiful girl who moved into a house near him. Her hair was like spun gold, and her eyes were like an ocean.
"'I'm going to marry her, one day.' The brother would say, but the little boy wouldn't believe him. So one day the little boy decided to talk to the girl. Soon enough they became extremely close friends.
"Soon enough, the brother became extremely angry after seeing them together. From then on he decided to either kill his brother or have the girl. However, as they got older their rivalry increased. The brother soon became sour and a bit of a loner. The boy, on the other hand, was enjoying the company of the girl very much. She always smiled and made him happy.
"One day, she told the boy that she wanted to become a guard. It seems her love for protecting people was very great. The brother, like always, hated seeing them together and happy. So when he saw them laughing, and remembering the good times they had, in the park, the brother instantly felt hatred burning inside him and ran to his home and locked himself in his room.
"While the boy was out having fun and enjoying the company of the girl, something happened inside that room that no one could predict would happen." Zekke finally finished as Kaarina stopped dead in her tracks.
"May I ask why you are telling me this?" Kaarina asked eying Zekke strangely.
"Kaarina, I was that little boy, you were that girl." He told Kaarina.
"That I know, but then who is the brother?" She asked in a bit of a daze.
"That would be me. Long time no see, eh brother?" A voice laughed behind them.
"L-Lithuite?! He's your brother?!" Kaarina said entering a high state of shock.
"I thank you for bringing her Zekke, you may leave." Lithuite said motioning for him to go.
Zekke only moved in front of Kaarina to make sure she was protected. "Sadly, I can't do that...Brother."
"Now then, what have we here? May I ask why I am unable to have her?" Lithuite asked moving his hand to his back, beginning to reach for his katanas.
Zekke then took Kaarina's hand and made sure if she was attacked, he would get the first blow. "Because she is with me, and you can't have her, understand little brother?" He said calmly through his scowl.
"NO! I swore to kill you, and as the gods as my witness, I will. Kaarina will be mine!" Lithuite yelled as his eyes became garnet and his wings spread out.
"Damnit Lithuite! She's a person, not property! Get that through your thick skull!" Zekke yelled getting even angrier.
"Never! I'd rather kill myself than have you take her!" Lithuite screamed.
"Stop it! Just stop it, damnit!" Kaarina yelled as her eyes became gold. "I do not belong to you, Lithuite, I never have and I never will!" She told him, causing Lithuite to react as though his heart was stabbed.
Lithuite's wings then went down and his eyes went back to black. "But didn't you ever just once, love me? Even just a bit?" He whispered.
Kaarina sighed and shook her head. "Not even a bit. I was always far too holy for you. You always believed only force would get you what you wanted. And that isn't even remotely true. Zekke became my friend because he wanted to, not because of desire. Over the years, that's what ultimately destroyed you. Desire. You wanted me to love you. You would have killed your own brother! And tell me for what? An elf? A lifetime of hatred and me despising you? Lithuite, you became too obsessed with trying to kill Zekke and obtain me. It wouldn't have worked, despite what you did." Kaarina said as a small tear went down Lithuite's cheek. Kaarina then placed a hand on Lithuite's cheek. "Now tell me, would you really want me, only to hate you forever?"
"No...But Zekke doesn't deserve you either!" Lithuite said making eye contact with his brother.
"Listen to me! Yes he does, Zekke befriended me instead of simply wanting me. YOU were the one who doesn't deserve me. Alright?" She said gripping his shoulders.
"Just one thing, then. Hug me, that's all I ask for." Lithuite said holding his arms out.
"What do you mean?!" Kaarina asked oblivious to the burns he had, due to her touching him.
"Kaarina, wait. I know what he means, and the answer's no, Lithuite." Zekke said grabbing Kaarina's hand and left, his eyes were still that of and angry liquid garnet.
You couldn't end it here, Kaarina, could you? Very well then. Let hell begin! Lithuite said in his mind laughing as he disappeared.
Soon enough, a figure began walking towards Kaarina.
