This has got to stop.
In the past few days, Soph and Lance seem to be growing more confident about revealing their feelings. They've tried three or four times each. I can't watch this anymore. Maybe I'm being selfish. But I'm helping Soph too. There's no way a guy like Lance could commit himself to her the way she'd want him to. I'm afraid of saying anything though, because Soph could get mad at me. And I don't want that. Sometimes I wish I could be open about my feelings toward her. I bet Lance wishes this too. That's exactly why he isn't right for Sophia. Soph needs someone who can be open with their emotions, like myself. Lance wears the same thing all the time. Team jacket, team jersey, jeans, black tee shirts. Boring. Team clothes say nothing about a person. Well, sometimes they say "I'm a jock". But still. I, for example, dress to my mood. When I'm happy, I'll wear pastels and pinks. When I'm upset, I wear bold, dark colors. When I'm trying to impress someone, I wear red.
I've worn red almost every day this week.
I love Soph's clothes. They're not overly-revealing, but they show off just enough. They're tight so they don't look stupid, but there's just enough wiggle-room in them. Her jeans fit comfortably around the waist and come down just too long by centimeters. Soph may usually wear plain colors, like green or navy blue or gray, but they complement her perfectly. My favorite article of hers is a deep red V-neck top with black stripes and mid length sleeves.
Unfortunately, I've noticed that Lance likes it too.
Soph is often trying to impress Lance with her clothes without noticing. She knows his favorite color is green. I've seen her on more than one occasion pick up something green to wear when she sees Lance. She probably doesn't even notice that she's doing it! And it kills me. Sometimes I imagine what Soph would dress like if she was trying to impress me. I could picture her dragging her mother into Hollister, picking up pink item in sight. But that's not Soph.
Soph wears green often. It looks good on her. The one pink shirt she owns, I think she wears it once or twice a year. She's not at all girl the way I am.
I get on the bus. Soph's sitting with Lance. How the hell did he get on the bus before me? I sit in the seat in front of them. "Hey guys!" I said.
"Hi Amy." Soph says.
I turn to Lance. "Isn't your stop after mine?"
"Yes." He said very matter-of-factly.
"Then how are you on the bus already?" I ask.
"I stayed over Billy's last night." He responded.
I better not hear otherwise from Soph.
Soph looks at me. "Amy, can you convince Lance that whatever he has to tell me isn't going to kill him?" Oh s**t. "He said he had to talk to me, but he isn't making sense."
"Lance?" I say.
A long silence. He turned toward Soph. "Soph, I-"
"Lance! You talked!" I exclaimed on purpose. That outta show him.
"Amy Linchfield!" Sophia complains. Uh-oh.
"Yes?" I respond.
"Why do you always interrupt? It's really rude." Soph scolds.
"I'm sorry Lance. I'm sorry Sophia." I apologize. Just then, the bus pulls into the school. Yes!
"Do you promise to tell me later?" Soph says to Lance.
"Meet me by my locker after class." He says, sounding too sure. No!
I can't let this happen. I just can't. It has to be stopped. There are a million reasons why I shouldn't let this happen.
All those reasons just happen to be Sophia. They say more than what is spoken,
Promises always get broken.
