COMPLICATIONS
Lance
In World History, I held my breath.
I can't believe I thought I could tell her.
Lioness Soph seems like she's staring me down.
The classroom feels small. I understand claustrophobia now. Feeling closed in, captured, likes there's no escape from impending doom.
The bell rings. My sentence is up, and the outside world doesn't hold out a welcoming hand. It holds out hurt. Hurt that burns deep inside.
If only I hadn't opened my big mouth.
Maybe I wouldn't be dieing now.
I get out of my seat extremely slowly. I pick up my things at half the speed I would have normally done it. She seems to notice. Her face fell. "Your not going to tell me, are you?"
"There's a very high possibility." I say in defeat.
"Lance, you promised." Soph says. The sorrow in her voice makes it feel like my heart's been ripped out already, even though I haven't confessed yet. "You know, you can tell me anything. That's what best friends are for."
"Soph, I-"
"Hey you guys!" Out of nowhere, there was Amy. Is this girl determined to ruin my shot at telling Sophia?
"Hey Amy." Soph said. She was as surprised as I was. "What's up?"
"Lance, I have something I need to say to you. Can you come with me for a second?" Amy asks.
I hesitate. "Um, okay?"
She grabbed my hand and pulled me out into the empty hallway. She pushed me up against my own locker. And before I could do anything about it, her lips were against mine.
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Soph walk into the hallway. They say more than what is spoken,
Promises always get broken.
