I haven't been on this account in awhile so I haven't updated my journal in months. Seeing as it's October again - Breast Cancer Awareness Month - I thought I would enter into the arena once more.
My mother is still alive and kicking. She has gone through several different chemos in the last year, some helped, some didn't, and the one she is on right now seems to be going good for now. Her quality of life is very poor, however, and her thinking isn't as clear as it was before all of her treatment. She is definitely not the same woman as she was pre-cancer. It breaks my heart every time I see her.
We live in Minnesota and the winters are harsh. My mom can't stand them anymore so my father took a job in Virginia and my parents are moving out there this month. I will be staying in Minnesota. My mom is worried that the distance will be too far for her and I to keep in contact so she is broken up about moving. I think the warmer climate will be great for her. She also has relatives that live about an hour away from where my parents are moving to so she will have people to visit with when out there.
My mom is 61 now and has had cancer since April of 2003. I can't say how much longer she has but I know she will pass in Virgina with me 2,000 miles away. I hope to visit her out there as much as I can afford to.
Here's to hoping they find a cure in her lifetime. I love you mom.
