This is a story that I wrote for creative writing class. Please tell me what you think. :]

Lightning, Rain and Thunder: The Perfect Companions
Skye gazed intently up at her ceiling, marveling at all the different shapes she was
able to see. Although young, she had so far grown-up to be just that type of person: One
that was always fascinated by the smallest details that life had to offer. She enjoyed the
satisfaction she was able to get from knowing that she never took life for granted; she felt
that she could never waste away one precious moment.

The eight-year-old's attention was suddenly caught by a loud crack of thunder,
the orgin of the noise emerging from just outside her bedroom window. Though most
would've been, she wasn't frightened by the sound; she honestly felt no need to be. After
all, in her small town, thunderstorms were nearly a daily occurrence -- living so close to the ocean didn't exactly help with the matter.

She calmly sat up from her lying-down position on her small twin bed and walked
over to her window. The already grey sky grew darker with each passing moment; the
dusky clouds surrounding her tiny home -- like a gang of people having the sole purpose
of seeming intimidating to one person trapped in the middle of all the excitement.

The rain then began to fall, adding to the turmoil the growing storm had to offer.

Skye serenely strolled into the living room of her small home, stepping right past
her mother -- asleep on the couch, the TV blaring with a re-run of some old show from
the 1950s. The glass door, leading the way to the backyard, opened easily, allowing Skye
to make her way onto the porch.

The aforementioned rain almost seemed to be on some sort of timed system, for as soon as the backdoor shut, it came down harder; droves of the cold liquid were almost a blur as they violently drenched everything that dared come in their path.

At first, the lone eight-year-old stay still, watching everything play out, eyes full of curiosity and wonder; but she soon stepped forward a few paces, allowing the rain to
wash over her. She wanted it to; she wanted to be a part of the storm. To her, it almost
seemed to be a sort of game.

Skye stared up at the severe-looking clouds, which shielded the sun right then, feeling some of the liquid drop straight into her eyes. She blinked a few times, the water
reaching into her lens as if she were applying eye drops. Even so, she kept her curious
green eyes open.

She had actually wondered on more than one occasion what exactly was the cause
of such a phenomenon such as 'rain', but not right then; right then she decided that she
would turn away from any random thoughts of wonder that reached into her mind and
just enjoy the experience.

To use as an accomplice to this latest (and rather ironic) thought, she finally
obeyed what her body had told her to do and shut her eyes; then the spinning began.
'Round and 'round she went, not a care in the world. Right then, all that mattered to her
was that she was actually able to enjoy such a thing that she knew most would be
troubled by. Thunderstorms, of course.

She had always wondered why so many hated the rain; to her, it was quite the little miracle. Random water particles falling straight out of the sky? What an event to see. She never knew why it happened, but she didn't care right then.

Right then, as mentioned previously, she didn't care about much of anything.

A bright flash entered into the context of her eyelids, reminding the eight-year-old of a camera enclosing a memory inside a photograph. Apparently, the thunder had
come out to play.

Whenever a thunderstorm occurred in the world, Skye always imagined for the lightning, rain and thunder to laugh and play like old friends. She always imagined that they were putting on a show; a Broadway play, to be perfectly clear. Rain, to see him all on his lonesome, always seemed so boring to the girl; she never quite enjoyed a rainstorm as much as a full-blown thunderstorm. It just seemed so much more exciting to see all of the companions working together.

Skye kept right on with her spinning, then really liking the feel of the rain. The cold water seeped into her clothes -- a simple light-green sweater and jeans -- but she, again, didn't care. The feel of the freezing water felt good.

Without even really realizing it all too much, Skye then began to hum a song. It was the title song of the movie, Singing in the Rain, one of her and her mother's favorite all-time classics. It always made her feel so happy to hear someone, anyone, sing it, whistle it, hum it -- whatever; she supposed that that was the orgin of her enjoying thunderstorms so much.

The sky seemed to grow a bit darker, but Skye, herself, wasn't at all troubled. She wasn't going to allow anything to distract her from the sort of tranquility she felt at that moment. Nothing -- no matter what.

Out of nowhere, the tiniest bit of dizziness befell her then, and she went tumbling to the ground; grass stains discolored the seat of her jeans, but she wasn't bothered by that, either. On the contrary, she allowed for her entire, tired body to lie itself down in the grass; the rain then had an even easier time of reaching the eight-year-old's face and front half.

As much as she would've really liked to have stayed out longer in the storm -- to spend more time being a part of the grand production -- she still obeyed her mother when she was told to come inside and "change into some dry clothes."

Skye smiled to herself on the way back to her room. It held completely true to her that actually being inside the storm was much more thrilling than just watching it from inside the protective barrier of walls and windows, but she knew that there'd be other chances; there always were.
