A new moon settles into the blanket of black, a blanket we all know to be the sky. This is a time of the day where everything sleeps. The surface of Lake Kaku is smoothe; no sounds could be heard from it. Being that it be the dead of night and a new moon, the surroundings of this rural land is rather....frightening. There are shadows that have shadows. Silence.
My name is Kaya Kawashi. You may think of this name of mine as an image of a happy, girly-girl type of girl but....you shouldn't judge the title before you know the truth. I like anything dark, nothing bright. I have long, glittery, brown hair and shock green eyes. I wear no make-up. Funny, huh? I have always been known to having outer beauty. I go to high school and have a job. I am pale skinned and love rock music. Most of the time you can find me sitting here by this lake, a lake I happened to name Lake Kaku. This lake rests in the state of Louisiana, the place where I live. A rather boring place at that. No adventures. No nothing. But the nights are good, though. Especially the night of the full moon.
"Crack!"
The sudden sound breaks the silence, which makes me spin in place. Nothing but darkness.
"Who's there?" I ask loudly. There's no response.
I fumble at the ground, grab my flashlight, and turn it on. I scan the area.
"Hello?" I ask again. I sigh.
It must be my imagination that's getting to me. I look down to check my watch; 9:30 pm. I groan in exasperation. My parents are bound to kill me for being out so late and not telling them where I am. I quickly turn on my heels and made a sprint towards the dark sidewalk that leads down to my neighborhood.
The cold, gental wind that hit my face as I ran calmed my tensed nerves. It usually isn't cold in Lousiana but this cold was a nice kind of cold for Autumn. My birthday is just around the corner, too. That's another thing that makes Autumn cool. (note the pun) I stopped in the middle of my neighborhood's street. A simple cul-de-sac with dull painted houses of greys, beige, and white houses. Mostly brick houses with concrete driveways and neatly trimmed lawns. I was practically looking at my house, though. My house was the biggest in contrast to the other houses and it was the last house down the street. My house is what made the dead end. My parents were big timey CEOs of a large business company so that's why we have such a high class living style. They are always working but when they aren't, they expect me to be present at all times. I just happened to lose track of time....
I smirk at that thought. What a lie that is. I took two steps forward, readying myself for another sprint when suddenly my chest heeved. I dropped to my knees, clutching my chest.
"Pant! Pant! What----tha--hell?" I gasped. Black blotches were beginning to cloud my vision.
"He....elp!" I weezed as I dropped flat on the pavement. A thick, mysterious fog had began to crawl into the street and by now it had covered the grounds of my neighborhood. It kinda reminded me of one of those vampire movies or horror flics. I intended to laugh but ended up coughing instead. I couldn't move....nor could I breath that well. I was coming in and out of consciousness but I was abruptly aware of soft footsteps coming closer and closer towards me. I closed my eyes, thinking of the worst possible scenario: a hobo that may have been following me or a sex offender coming to rape a girl who is defenceless. I opened my eyes to a pair of shiny, polished dress shoes. Nope. Not a hobo, unless this hobo jacked a rich dude of his clothes and got away with it but that sounds weird just thinking about it. It must be a sex offender. I closed my eyes again. I want to be passed out. Oh please, darkness, take me! I don't want to be conscious when it happens!
It didn't happen. Instead I felt myself being lifted from the ground and carried. I could feel my hair swaying in the wind as this unknown guy carried me. I began to see bright lights from underneith my eyelids and hear the whisper of car engines.
"Oh my! What's wrong with her?" A woman's voice asked. Wait! That didn't sound at all like my mother!
"She's havin' complications with her lungs. She can't breath," the guy holding me answered with a street, bad-boy accent. His words made me swoon and I could sence the...nurse? hesitate, too.
"We'll--take her in, immediately! Come this way, um...what was your name, sir?" the nurse asked.
"Haru," he answered and followed.
The next thing I knew, I was given a shot and an oxygen mask.
"This will do for now. Are you two, uhhh, together?" the nurse asked with a hint of anguish. My cheeks began to flush. I've never met this guy nor do I know what he looks like?! And how in the hell did I get to a hospital when all this guy did was walk?! There was no car ride coming here! I just know it! There is no possible way this guy could walk that damn fast to this hospital from my neighborhood because this hospital is located WAY across the town. I think I'm getting a headache....ughhhh.
"Not yet....and you're not my type, lady. This girl...has my heart," he answered as I slowly drifted off to sleep.
