Wow, where to start?
This year me and Emoskittles08 went on holiday together to Whitby. It is known as the Goth Capital of the world, due to the fact that a large section of Dracula was set in the relatively small Seaside town on the north Yourkshire coast.
Simply put, the holiday was AWESOME. I never saw so many things that I wanted to buy!!!! There were three large shops dedicated to all things gothic. There is a picture which I'll upload later of a chair that I fell inlove with! Unfortunately...It cost nearly 2 grand *sigh*
AnywayI'll talk more about the shops and clothes later. The town of Whitby lies close to the Whitby Abbey, one of the most intact Abbey's in England. Close to the Abbey is Saint Mary's Church, whose graveyard has the most spectacular views of the town. It overlooks the sea and the harbour, and you can see for miles around. It's truly spectacular. If you exit the graveyard you must walk down 199 steps to get into the Old part of town. Think about this. We were on the SAME hill as the church and the Abbey...Every day we'd have to walk up and down a similar flight of steps...Exhausting much?
When you come to the bottom of the steps you are in the oldest looking part of time. The streets are cobbled, and the buildings much more traditional than the ones anywhere else in the town. It is this area that the ghost walk takes place at night. If you wander through this area you will reach a large stone pillar with a clock on it. This means that you have reached the Shambles. (Which, by the way has an AMAZING Costume shop...I was so tempted to get one of the capes...Alas! It was too expensive...)
If you carry on wandering through this area you will eventually come to a turning Bridge. This bridge celebrated it's 100th year anniversary when we were there (In one of the papers, they had an 8 PAGE SPREAD about said Bridge...Surely you can't write 8 pages about a bridge....) This Bridge connects the town together...and I'm sick of giving you a virtual tour now, so I'll give you the lowdown on what we did.
Most days we went down to the beach for an hour or so, before wandering off to the Gothic shops that we found. The exception to this is on Tuesday and Thursday On Tuesday, Me and Skittles couldn't be arsed to get out of bed, and we both decided we needed a shower. So whilst the rest of my family went rock pooling in Robin Hoods Bay, Me and Skittles had a shower, wandered off into Somerfield, bought some Uncle Bens rice and had a girly day in...With Kung Fu Panda on Sky (Skabooosh!) Thursday we all walked across the beach over to the nearby village of Sands End, and spent the day there.
Some nights we stayed in and watched Sky (Or, in our case...Spongebob Squarepants) And Me and Skitts babysat whilst my parents went out (Even on Holiday lol...) Other Nights we went down to the arcades. I spent most of my time on the Guitar Hero Machine with Skitts...Either that or the Dance Machine...Usually Both. On the last Night (Friday) We came back from the arcade and sent my Brother and Sister to bed, and at 11:45pm Me, Skitts and my Dad headed off to the Graveyard. Now at night there is a spotlight which illuminates the outside wall of the church, so we messed around in front of it, casting shadows onto the church wall. (Very appropriate behavious for a Grave yard, I know) And at Midnight, I decided to swing my legs in front of it...with the wrong timing of course. After that, we headed off back to the holiday house...And heard another Midnight...Weird place Whitby.
Anyway...THE SHOPS!!!!!!!!!! Wow I can't get over how awesome they were! I fell in love with anything that came in Black and Red! There were so many gorgeous corsets, tops and skirts I can't even begin to describe them! There were these beautiful long skirts that poofed out slightly, with roses stitched on...and bells!. And then the Short Skits...Just wow. The corsets Just the same...I think I fell In love with everything there...Why can't we have shops like that back home??? ...
The worst thing about Whitby however...(Yes, there is a worst) Was the Dracula Experience. Now I mentioned earlier that a huge portion of Dracula was set in Whitby, so of course there was bound to be some sort of Museum or something to do with it. Basically. It was shite. It promised live actors; There was one. Dressed up as Scream. What the hell does scream have to do with Dracula???? Basically...it was dissapointing. Half the models didn't do anything, it didn't deliver Dracula's warning...Just shockingly bad...shockingly bad.
All in all however, Whitby was amazing. I loved it I loved it and I want to move there. Now.
