Chapter 2
"Why was that Hyuga fellow so scared of Ami anyway?" Emil had asked. He, with Ami and Kyoh, were on a G-flyer to get started on their mission. "Well, it's because Ami was so ruthless with the saber. They were partnered up to spar with each other a couple times at the academy." Ami looked out of the window. "I only won twice you know." "But when you get really serious like that, it gets a bit....intimidating." Emil laughed to himself. "But as soon as her hair started to grow, she became a little less intimidating. Speaking of which." Kyoh turned his golden eyes towards Ami. "Why did you start growing your hair anyway? You said that at the academy that long hair would get in the way of your attacks. So you kept it short." Ami was silent at first. "I wanted a change." she put it bluntly.
Soon, they arrived at the area. Ami shivered a little from the cold. "Their influence here is pretty potent." Emil noted. "Before we start." Ami said. She changed her twin daggers to her rod, Canara. She had preformed Shifta to all the members. "We don't want to get surprised do we?" Emil smiled. "Yes you're right. Kyoh how are you holding up?" Kyoh had already put on his goggles, searching for the Photon circles. His goggles made a slight clicking sound, signaling that they found something. "I got them." Emil nodded. "Right, now you and Ami get on the circles and use your reflectors." They nodded as they went into position. Soon they got to the reflectors and began firing into the blume. It wasn't long before the core dropped it's shield. Emil took out his preferred weapon, a sword. After attacking the core a couple times, it was destoryed. "That's leaves four more."

The group of three were on their way to the last core. It has went smoothly so far, only having to deal with a couple seed infected creatures. As soon as they walked through the last gate, a group of Tenghogs appeared. "Of course the last one will always be the hardest." Kyoh remarked. Ami started to switch her twin daggers. "You know I hate Tenghogs right?" In her hands appeared a pike, with a red blade on it. Emil rushed in front of Ami and Kyoh. He swung his sword down at one of the Tenghogs. "We should try to get rid of them quickly." Kyoh noted, "The effects of Shifta are weaning." Ami nodded. "And it will take a little bit before I can cast it again." Ami and Kyoh ran up to where Emil was and began to attack as well.
After a few minutes, they completed their mission. The three were resting at the Neudaiz Guardians Branch. "You two have come a long way." Emil noted. "I think I can see your license coming very soon." Both Kyoh and Ami smiled at the thought. "And you won't be able to call me Instuctor anymore." His eyes began to well up. "Come on Instuctor, stop that." Kyoh said. "Yeah, you'll still be Instructor in our hearts." Ami added. He dramatically went over and hugged them. "My prodigies." Then the doors opened. On the other side was Maya, Ethan, and Hyuga. "Oh! I didn't know you guys were using this room." Maya said. Emil stood up straight. "We're only resting. Just finished a Seed based mission." "I'm relieved to see you guys safe." Maya added. Ami nodded. "It wasn't easy." Kyoh waved it off. "Especially with the Tenghogs at the end. We thought they would never give up. Ami ended up using Dus Dagas a bit too much and almost ran out a PP a couple times." Her face turned red. "Well if it wasn't for me, then it would have taken longer. I had to cast Resta and Shifta a few times." Emil turned to hit Ami and Kyoh in the head with the harisen. "That's enough you two. Go back to the Colony and rest. I'll be contacting you about the next mission." "You're not coming Instuctor?" Emil shook his head. "I still have a couple things to do here." Ethan stretched his arms. "Since you two are going back, how about we all just go back together?" Kyoh began to walk out of the room. "I'm fine with that." Ami quietly looked at Hyuga. When he returned the look, her face became red. "Hold up!" Then she ran after Kyoh.
The four trainees were riding the ship back to the Guardian's Colony. "Where's Instructor Karen?" Ami asked. "She had some private matters to attend to." Ethan quickly replied. "Oh...." Then she looked out of the window. "Ethan. Are you and Hyuga free tomorrow?" "I think so, why?" "Well, it's been a while since the four of us been in the same room. How about we all hang out or something?" "I have no problem with that. Hyuga, what about you?" "Eh? Oh fine, I had nothing planned for tomorrow anyway." Kyoh was now staring at Ami. "Okay, fine. I'll go. Sheesh. I didn't have anything better to do anyway." "You sound so mad Ami." She ignored the comment and just continued to look out of the window.

"Here you two." Ethan and Hyuga looked at Kyoh. "Take my partner card. I think that it will be fun with the four of us on free missions." "Thanks. I think it will." Ethan replied. Ami gave Ethan hers. And then she quickly gave Hyuga her's. It was almost as if she pushed it on him. "I'm going back to the Barracks. Send me a message when you want to meet up." Then she quickly went about her way. "What's up with her?" Ethan asked. Kyoh shrugged his shoulders. "I don't know. She's been acting like that since I asked her if she still had a crush on Hyuga." Hyuga's face turned bright red. "Wait what?" "It was back when we were all in the academy. She said she's over it. Eh, she's always been a tad different." Then he looked at the time. "I have to go to the shops." "Uh yeah. Until tomorrow." When Kyoh was gone, Ethan laughed to himself. "It isn't funny Ethan." "Oh really now?" Then he was silent. "She was such in a rush, we didn't give her our partner cards." He looked down at the card. "Her room isn't that far. I'm going to go over there and give her my card. You coming?" Hyuga shook his head. "No, I'm exhausted from the mission. Give her mines for me?" He went over and gave an extra copy of his card to Ethan. With that the two parted ways.
Meanwhile, Ami just arrived to her room. "Hello Miss Ami. How was the mission?" "It was fine Megami, got to learn a few Technics today. And I have some new items for you." As she was giving Megami items for synthesis and to feed, Megami said, "You have a new message from someone titled 'Mama'." Ami went over to her terminal. "It's Mama! I didn't think she would contact me so soon." Ami took her nanotrasporter off, leaving her in her body suit. First Ami noticed that it was a text-based message. "Mama, doesn't really like using holograms. Says it takes away from the whole homemade feeling of a letter." Then she opened it. The letter read:
"Dear Ami,
How are you? How is Kyoh? It's been a while since you two came back home. But I guess this means that you two are doing well with your Guardians training. We were quite surprised that you two decided to become Guardians. When I heard that you were going out to be a part of mobile defense, I nearly fainted. You two are fighting to keep those 'Seed' at bay right? So I can't help but be proud at that. I still think that you should have been R&D. But then again, you wouldn't be happy there. Your father thinks that I'm worrying too much about it all. ...Oh! I shouldn't be using this time to ramble my thoughts about. As long as you want to do this, then I'm happy. But make sure you and Kyoh come back home when you are free. We would like to see you two.

Ami smiled a little. She hovered her cursor at the 'reply' button and began typing:
" Dear Mama,
Thanks for the letter. Kyoh and I are doing just great. At the time of writing this letter, we had just finished a mission on Neudaiz. It was difficult, but we finished it with the help of our instructor. Instructor Emil, (we just found out his name today) thinks that we'll be acquiring our Guardian's licenses soon. And I really am fine with being with mobile defense. Actually, I've gotten pretty good with twin daggers. I don't even use a saber anymore.
Guess what? I got to see the Divine Maiden today. It was part of our earlier mission. She's so- "
Ami heard a small ring at her door. "I'm coming." She grumbled to herself as she put her nanotransporter back on. Once she opened it, her eyes widened. "Oh Ethan, it's a pleasant surprise." "Yeah, you left in a rush. So I came to give you Hyuga and I's partner card." Ami's face turned a little red. "Oh, so I did." After he gave her the cards, there was some silence. "You mind if I can come in for a little bit?" Ami moved out of the way so that he could walk in. On the left he saw a scroll, a doll, and a golden trophy. "Those are some nice decorations." "Thanks. Wasn't particularly cheap either." Megami floated towards the two. "Miss Ami, I didn't know you were expecting a guest." "I wasn't. Megami, this is Ethan. He and I were in the Guardians academy together. Ethan, this is my partner machine Megami." "It is nice to meet you Sir Ethan." Ethan's face reddened over Megami's formality. "Just call me Ethan please."
He soon saw that Ami's terminal was on, and it was some typing on there. "Did I disturb you while you were doing something?" She shook her head. "It's fine. I was just writing back to my mother." Then she scratched the back of her head. "Mama still thinks that I should be at a desk instead of actually fighting. I'm not a genius, so mobile defense works fine with me." "So I heard you used to like Hyuga." Ami froze. "God dammit Kyoh." "Don't worry so much about it. I'm over it, really." He shrugged his shoulders. "I just find it weird that any girl will like him." "Surely you noticed. Since you two are training together. Yeah, he likes to pick up on girls. But when he's serious about a mission, it's admirable." Then her face became red. "You just came to deliver the partner cards right?" "Oh! Right. Well I'll see you tomorrow. Kyoh should be contacting you on your commlink about the meeting place." She nodded and watched at Ethan left the room. Ami quickly went back over to her terminal and finished writing the letter to her mother. After she sent it, she took off her nanotransporter and fell on the bed. The exhaustion from the mission was finally coming over her. "Miss Ami, your commlink is going off." Megami said. Ami got back up and turned it on. "What is it Kyoh?" "We're going to meet up at the cafe near GRM shop in Parum tomorrow afternoon." "Alright, I'll be there tomorrow. I'm going to sleep okay." She turned off her commlink and turned towards the wall. "Goodnight Megami." she muttered. "Sleep well Miss Ami." It wasn't long before Ami drifted off to sleep.

I never said that it was a date between Ami and Hyuga wink . Though I think it's the shortest of Part 1. Nothing really interesting goes on. It's hard to tell when the story picks up.
Next Chapter: The date and a hint to Ami's looks.
