Race :: “Descry” is the name of the people. Their name means to discover, observe, and to catch sight of. They as a people are observers. And the Lexophiles gave them this name during the Descry people’s forced settlement of the area. Their native language is a complex language that is based on calligraphy that looks like art. The native symbol from the Descry represents the two suns, in a house, with an eye. They say that the name Descry is close to the names that the people gave to themselves, Desukuto. Which means discoverer in their language.
History:: The Descry was thought to be originated in another solar system, called
“Zeta” for many years. They lived on a planet named Reticuli. The Descry people experienced a state in which their people did not die eternally. Upon death a Descry would burn and turn into ashes, but at an unknown time and place would be reanimated. This made aging and the concept of “age” very vague. They could look 18 Endune years but have lived over 300. The Descry never imagined a permanent form of death, until their suns died. The Descry were originally from a planet that had two suns. One was a red sun named (Extol) and the other was a blue sun named (Exalt). Their suns started to die, and their people made a last effort to escape the planet. Unfortunately it was too late and many of the Descry died attempting to escape the dying suns. It was said that the Descry searched throughout galaxies to find a planet suitable for life. Their whole race was scattered across galaxies, but some were sent to Endune and started to live there. Their original language was nearly wiped out because after the initial “landing” As they developed the language of the other cultures around them, their language not only bonded with it, but the original Descry language was starting to disappear.. It is speculated that a Descry ship crashed into the Black Lake of Endune. Although it is not sure. The immortal race of the Descry were forced to adapt to a mortal world. They were left in a unknown world, with not much information about their past. The only thing they held onto was the shards of their dead sun that’s shards are embedded throughout Endune. They are great observers. They watch the skies, watch the people around them and use it as a chance to study. Their astronomy is very advanced, since they know a lot about their galaxy. They watch the skies each night and find their solar system, even though their galaxy is destroyed, they can still point out where it was, and want to always be able to.
Native name(s):: Descry. It is pronounced “Des” like I Desecrate and “Cry” like the Cre in Cream. To describe the people you must say either “the Descry” or “Descry people”. For items or anything that comes from the people you can call Descrian. Ex. Descrian music, art, dishes, etc. Descry people generally have two names. The first name and last name are very important. The first name comes from a mix of the family’s name with the name of your mother choses. For instance, if your family name is Shoku and your mother named you Kiri, then she would make a combination of the two to form your first name. Kisho, Kishoku, Riku, Kuri, any combination will become your first name. Your newly created first name will be YOUR family name. So when you have kids, the wife would use your first name (the family name) Kisho, Kishoku, Riku, Kuri or whatever and mix it with the name she choses for her child. The last name is a personal name that your father and elders will give to you. The last name is considered very important because it is unique to each person, and it most likely represents something. Upon marriage, the female takes the male’s family name as her family name. A man is usually called by his family name, while a married woman is called by her last name. A single woman will be called by her family name until she is married.
Personality:: The Descry are interesting people. They develop a strong since of friendship and strong passion to other people in their race and outside their race. They are also content with themselves. The Descry people are very protective. They not only keep the enchanted swords and armor within the Descry families, but they are protective of their way of life. They are also protective towards their friends. They do not usually start quarrels, in fact they don’t like them at all, but if one of their close friends or family is attacked, they will retaliate in full force. Same is said about the motherland, if it is attacked, they will retaliate. They also are an easy race to get along with, for they understand other’s viewpoints and respect them. They also hate to make others feel bad. They always try to make their friends feel better if something is wrong. The Descry cant stand to see others in distress, despite their own distress. Other cultures in Endune fascinate the Descry. They love to “people watch” and see what is going on in Endune. A part of them feel as if they are connected to the other cultures and people for a reason, others feel like they are lost and are strangers on Endune.
Age:: Age is something hard to determine about the Descry. This is because of the fact that when the Descry die, they burn to ashes. Eventually they will resurrect, but they will not know in how much time or where. It could be in 5 mins across the world, or it could be 3 million years, 3 feet away from where they died. It is unknown why the Descry rebirth, but it is suspected that it has something to do with their strong spirits. The average Descry male appears young to the eye, but in all actuality are several hundereds, if not thousands of years old.
Physical appearance:: Descry people are very much human. They stand on two feet, with two arms, one head, two eyes, etc etc. Their skin is white, but not pale. Their eyes are famous to look a tad scary. Their eyes are normal length but have abnormally large pupils. These extremely large pupils cause for problems for seeing in the light, but are perfect for night. It was said that at their home planet the two suns were close enough to provide light, but far enough away (during MOST of the year) to make the planet cold and have long dark nights. They usually have long to medium hair, for it is a custom, but is tied back in most cases for battles. They are not a race of giants, but stand almost 6 feet tall generally. Their hair is a beautiful pearly white, but the recessive traits are red and blue hair, and they take very much care of it. For it is in their culture to take care of their temple, the body. They are not fat nor too skinny, but right enough in the middle. They have several special markings on their body. For the most part, the people have strange calligraphy type writing marked on their arm, back or neck like a tattoo. These markings react in coordination with shards of the dead suns. Swords, armor, and other items have a direct correlation to their tattoos and it makes them glow, and sometimes burn when they are in contact with these specially enchanted items. The Descry people are quite a handsome race. Their hair, medium stature, and eyes that look deep, dark and mysterious, makes them look scary when they want to be, but also elegant and beautiful. Although most Descry people feel that they are too different from the other races inhabiting Endune.
Physical Abilities:: The Descry do not possess any abnormal or amazing physical abilities. The only thing that stands out is their outstanding swordsmanship, but that is due to their intense training and after their Arrivals, still remember the training. Other than their swordsmanship, they do not have any physical abilities that are extravagant.
Supernatural:: As listed earlier, the Descry are mysterious in their supernatural abilities. But what is supernatural in a realm that the supernatural is considered natural? The Descry possess many abilities that are unique as the culture itself. The most amazing is their eternal life. Descry don’t die of age, but can die. When they die their body burns into ashes. At a unknown time and place, they will Arrive, or reanimate. The drawback is that they do not know when or where they will be reborn. After the death of both of their suns, crystallized shards were sent all across the galaxy, and right in the main pathway of the debris was the planet of Endune. These shards react with the strange markings that the Descry have. When forged with the magma of the black volcano, the shards of the dead suns can be turned into swords, armor and other items. They can make items out of an indestructible metal through Entice. Descry people have a few supernatural abilities. Since they believe that everyone who temporarily dies is connected through one consciousness, they feel that they can draw strength. A certain devision of their military specializes in nonphysical (sometimes called psychic) attacks (see Weapons). Not necessarily supernatural, but the Descry race feels a mutual since of connection with all beings.
Cloths:: The clothes that the Descry wear has changed thought the years. It was said that upon their arrival or crash, that most of their belongings were destroyed in a fire. The Descry adapted their clothes to their strange new home. The average wear for men is a sort of 3 layered tunic. The first layer is tight clothes that hug the body, the second layer applies only to the torso, and is a cotton cloth which is unseen when the 3rd layer is on. The third layer is a thin cloak that has a collar. It has a V-neck design. A felt belt keeps it all on the waist. In the warmer months the 2nd layer can be removed and the 1st layer be replaced with more comfortable wear that cools the body. The cloak has an optional hood that is worn on colder days. They generally wear sandals made out of wood and fabric. Their socks are warm and are generally thin as well. Glasses are one of the most popular items among men. The women wear a variety of clothes. Mainly a tunic style much like the men, but has tight leggings, and is easier to move around in [compared to a heavy Victorian outfit]. They usually wear two layers of clothes. The outer layer has patterns and symbols that are hand crafted by the women. Their clothes are considered very beautiful, because of the artwork that is incorporated. The winter clothes of both sexes is quite amazing. They all wear very elegant robes. The most popular men’s robe is a layered robe. The robe is in 3 layers, and usually each layer has a individual color with the top layer having a extravagant design. The first layer is the longest slim inner robe that is made for warmth. The second optional layer is for added warmth and has the family symbol on the bottom left and right of the robe. The 3rd layer is the most beautiful. As the outer layer it displays patterns, symbols, and sometimes sayings that the Descry hold important. The robe has a hood, and has a muffler scarf that is used to go across the face, and hangs down to the belt. Women prefer another type of robe. Their robe is a two layered robe that has many ropes. The hood, bottom, and cuffs have writing on them. Their robe is slim, but extremely warm, with a extra large hood that holds more material for warmth. The first layer is the warmest and us usually decorated in the middle going from the bottom of the neck to the bottom of the robe. The second layer has many patterns and is beautiful. It looks like a jacket and it has ropes that intertwine. The ropes make the robe a tight fit, but also correspond with the beautiful designs on the 1st layer.
Clothes: Military. The military have a completely different set of clothes from the civilians, but have generally the same robes. The military wears heavy plated armor that is still light enough to move around in. the armor has a beautiful chest plate. This chest plate has two parts. The front part goes from the neck to the waist, and connects to a identical plate that is on the back. A strong leather weave hangs from the metal shoulder plates. An optional muffler can come up from the neck of the chest plate to cover face in cold situations. More weaved strong leather straps hang down from the metal plates covering the groin and waist. These straps are large and hand down quite a bit. They wear special shoes that are easy to maneuver in and tight gloves that are perfect to wield the heavy two handed swords. They prefer not to wear helmets. The standard army battalion has rectangular flags that are mounted proudly on their back. These flags are mounted all over the cities, and are celebrated. The army symbol is quite amazing. It is two circles with one slightly over one other diagonally to the right. The circles are outlines in red, blue, and black lines with a white background with red shark teeth looking trim around the flag. This elegant symbol is displayed on the national flag, and on the military’s standard issue robe. It is called a muffler robe. The robe is a standard one layer robe with a muffler that covers the mouth and face. It also has slots all inside the robe to store items needed for non combat. The national symbol is displayed on the back and on the hood of the robe. Everyone who sees this robe knows that they are in the military because the robe is specially made for the military, and is not sold commercially.
Region:: The Descry’s former planet was mentioned in the history, but this will explain their current placement. They are settled around the lake and near the volcano. They need the volcano to make their items enchanted. They find the lake one of the most beautiful features of Endune. Their favorite part is to see the glisten of the sun and moon on the waters, because it reminds them of their two suns and four moons. Also the lake water has a lot to do with the cooling of the swords upon Entice. During the colder months, a cool chill will come from over the mountains and past the lake to make the colder months very cold for the Descry. The hotter months are a bit more bearable because of the cold draft. Although it looks like they are excluded from the other cultures, they are still connected to them. Unfortunately, the Descry are closest to the Endune’s largest mutual enemy, the Aurok.
Cuisine:: The Descry live around the lake, in the flood plains, and at the base of the mountain. They have to forge into plateau and basin of the mountains to obtain food. They also collect food from the large lake that they are settled around. Fish become a major part of their diet. The flood plains make it perfect for rice, corn, and other agriculture. When traveled into the mountains they kill bears, deer, and other large animals for meat. Descry love animal meat. Is a wonderful delight in Endune to them. One of their most famous dishes is a filled fish with bear meat. Another famous dish comes from their wheat harvesting and their berry hunting. They LOVE to make their famous berry cobbler. During the “Great Berry Festival” all of the citizens go into the mountains and basin to get berries to make cobbler. Then down the main streets of the cities people display their assortment of different dishes from all of the local berries. The Descry also make fine wines from the berries of the area. They also use lake water with enchanted minerals to create a sparkling wine that never ceases to sparkle. They call it the Moon Glass Wine, because of the appearance of the wine resembles that of the moon glistening over the lake.
Resources:: The resources the Descry have are the lake, that they mainly use as recreation because they do not want to pollute the waters with boats and other works. The volcano is a major resource to them. They use it to forge items with the shards of their dead suns to make unbelievable items (see weapons). The volcano also provides perfect training ground. Since the volcano is dormant (at the moment) it is a perfect spot for the Descry to set up observation stations to observe the stars, and the area in which they live in. The flood plains become a perfect farming opportunity, because of irrigation channels they can create for the crops. The basin of the mountain provides a more woodsy area for the Descry to hold celebrations. They gain their wood from going into the mountains, hills, and the basin. Their main advantage is agriculture and farming. The flood plains provide a multitude of crops.
Professions (Army): The army has many professions. The generic ones are the main fighting force, a secret force that is used in stealth missions, they have enchanters that work as healers. There is also a division that is devoted to supernatural attacks, called the Esoterics (see weapons) They have instruments forged from the suns’s shards and prove to have a magical effect on any humanoid figure that is damaged physically. The army is lead by a set of generals. The set of generals are lead by a council. This council is overruled by the leaders of the Descry people, The Council Of The Stars. Their symbol is 5 great stars inside the two circles. The Council of The Stars make laws, and serve as a governing body. They are elected by the general population, but the requirements are very strict. The members of The Council of the Stars are considered to be some of the most experienced men and women who are absolutely devoted. Each of them have tremendous fighting abilities as well as intellect beyond this world. These people are respected, but still are like any other person. They each have their own houses, and mingle among the population like any other citizen. The Council Of The Stars members are also known to possess great knowledge about their supernatural abilities. They also work as private teachers for the most deserving of students. The army has many divisions that have a since of pride and loyality. The whole civilization have a code of arms and a honor code that they all abide to.
Professions (Citizens): The Descry people are quite interesting. Their professions are different. Teachers are respected as a very high position. There are many bakers and cooks, for the food in Endune is one of their most favorite treats. Masons, and carpenters all have their own jobs. There are a multitude of jobs that keep the society running. The arts are considered one of the most sacred of professions. The Descry people enjoy plays, operas, and other drama. Their drama comes from their past lives on the planet of Reticuli. It is all very interesting and captivating. Art is very appreciated, and is not only shown through the massive canvases across the cities, but in their clothes. The Descry love to have art shows to feature art of other cultures. Music is the most sacred profession. The musicians in Decrian orchestras are considered top notch and go through extensive training. Some musicians have been playing music for hundreds of years (including past years and “Arrivals”). The Descrian music is very beautiful and diverse. The composers of Descrian music draw lots of their inspiration from observing the habitat in which they live in, and their past lives in Reticuli. Unlike the Muse, the Descry do not possess magical music. Music to the Descry people is considered one of the most joyous forms of art. Orchestras play all throughout the land, and in every festival and celebration. The Descry people have been experimenting with architecture for many years, and due to their innovative personality, they have some of the most unique statues, houses, and buildings.
Weapons:: The Descry love weapons. Citizens are allowed to have, and carry weapons. Even though this is allowed the crime rate is little to none. The weapon preferred by the Descry are longswords. The longswords, claymores, dragon blades, two handed swords, and spirit swords are NOT made in mass production. Many families possess swords that they themselves forged out of the shards of the dead suns and the magma of the volcanoes. These special swords are identified by having the colors blue or red.
The process of forging these swords is called Entice. Through this process, a indestructible sword is made that has a shiny appearance, and the colors red or blue. These swords never dull, never chip, and can never be destroyed. Therefore these swords can cut through almost anything. These swords, fallen into the wrong hands, could prove to be quite a problem. Descry families have special swords made just for them, and are passed on (or created for) to the children when they come of age. They have the option to create a personal sword in their years of study. When Entice a sword, it is said that the spirit of the galaxy is within it. Therefore the name Spirit Weapons were created. Special weapons are handmade and are made specifically for the individual. Each swords looks, feels, and acts different. Not everyone is able to obtain swords made from the shards of their dead stars. So they will make normal swords according to their own preferences. It is a great honor to have a Entice sword, but it is also very difficult to obtain the materials needed, forge them correctly, and finance. The other form of attacks that the Descry use is a supernatural set of attacks called Nephilim. These attacks originated and are only taught by the members of The Council of The Stars. These magic based attacks appear simple, but are of the most rare and complicated to learn. Only an elite squadron of specialists use the extent of these powers in battle. These powers include the power to physically choke someone through meditation (can also be used to move objects), the ability to manipulate natural geographical features, the ability to send a invisible wave to knock the enemies down, a ability to create a invisible wall for a short amount of time. All of these powers are extremely rare and besides the secret army division called the Esoteric’s, and the Council of The Stars(non fighting group), no one else knows the means to use these attacks. The Nephilim attacks have interesting science theory behind it. It is said that the Esoterics after awaking from being Fallen, they are still connected to the collective consciousness. Therefore they draw from the collective consciousness, asking the current Fallen Descry to aid them in battle or when practicing. The collective consciousness either allows or does not allow them to tap into the power of their Fallen brethren. These attacks, when abused, will make the person weak. They will turn pale and their veins black, and there is a looming fear that when they are among the Fallen, that they will never be reborn, having true death. These attacks are limited to two groups of people in a combined total of less than 30 people. The Esoterics are considered one of the most valuable last resort weapons that the Descry obtain. This makes the Descry perfect for battle. Their experience of training from all of their past lives, their rare special indestructible Entice Spirit Swords, and the Esoterics, are the most valuable weapons the Descry have to offer.
Pets (mounts):: The Descry have adopted a few animals of the Endune habitat. The Descry were fascinated with the cats and foxes of Endune. For their animals on Reticuli were relatively hostile and not pretty. They adopted cats and foxes as pets and are considered great companions to families. These pets are even considered a part of the family, given family names and are always considered when talking about a Descry family. Their mounts are quite interesting as well. They tamed horses from the Basin, flood plains, and hills (the surrounding areas). Horses are also tamed for battle and receive armor and battalion names. The horses are generally used for military uses, but are also used as a mode of transportation. The Thunderbird is the Descry’s most famous mounts. A breed of bird that only appears in the thunder storm and parches on the top of the volcano. This massive bird is known for its beautiful blue and green colors. It is very much loved by the Descry people because it mimics the birds of their home planet. These birds are not used for battle, but are perfect vehicles for the Descry to observe the surroundings.
Religion:: Their religion is quite interesting. They have a common belief that when someone “dies” that when they are in that state between death and rebirth, they are a part of the consciousness. They believe that each person, descry and non descry are connected by consciousness. They also believe that this collective consciousness can be a medium in which to tap into information. It is more of a philosophy and not a religion. They are quite interested in other religions, and are curious to find out what they are ment for on the planet of Endune.
Culture:: The Descry culture is very fascinating. They are a close community that is connected through community. So community activities and celebrations are most important. There are many festivals that are important to the Descry people. Two food festivals that are very important are called “The Great Berry Festival” And “The Wine Festival”. These two festivals celebrate some of Descry’s most famous dishes. The Descry enjoy food very much, so these are important. “The Great Berry Festival” is when all families collect all sorts of berries and make thousands of dishes. Then on the main road in the city, is displayed at family booths. Thousands of people will walk the streets trying dishes and buying the dishes they love the most. “The Wine Festival” is another festival that is much like “the Great Berry Festival”, but deals in wines and imported cheeses.
There are several festivals that are celebrating major landmarks in history. They have “Festival of Gathering”. This is a festival that incorporates all cultures and all people. It celebrates the arrival of the Descry to Endune. When they were introduced and were given assistance by the other cultures. This is a gratitude of thanks towards the other cultures, and a celebration of their new adventure on Endune. Another historical festival is the “Thunderbird Festival”. The people create thunderbirds made out of paper and other materials and put them on and march down in a parade. The whole cities decorate all of the buildings for the celebration. Throughout the year there are many celebrations where orchestras will play. Music is very important to them, and throughout their cities have musicians playing at every street corner. There are amazing buildings made that are made specifically for orchestras.
-Buildings- for the buildings, they have to go into the basin, forests in the hills, etc to collect wood for houses. These houses generally house one family. They have sliding doors made of wood square panels’ and paper in the middle of the square panels. Most of the time the panels are decorated for the children, or if there are no children, for the couple. Their houses are generally two stories. Their houses are entirely made out of wood, and is filled with imported and domestic rugs. They generally do not have houses filled with fancy objects and such. They generally like to keep things simple and to have what they need to be happy. The ones who live on, or in sight of the lake have a giant windows that allow them to see the lake. The Descry are in love with the lake’s beauty, so their houses are designed to be able to view the lake. Their main room is also where the giant windows are. A fireplace is most usually in the main room as well. The main room is connected to the kitchen. This is because food is a great part of the Descry culture. They love food, and nothing is more beautiful than to eat food while watching the sun set over the lake. The houses on the lake usually have wood docks that go out into the lake. These small docks are used for recreation, swimming, and other activities.
Their other buildings that house different events, divisions are generally made in the same style as their houses, but a tad bigger. The coffee shops and bakery’s are some of the most popular hangouts in the Descry cities. The bakeries and coffee shops are big buildings that have lots of space for the people to enjoy their food and relax. Outsiders that come to visit the Descry find that their bakery’s and coffee shops are some of the most relaxing places in the Descry culture.
The Descry people play, and enjoy learning and participating in other people’s sports. Their favorite sport is throwing a disk object. ( To make a long story short ultimate Frisbee). Their recreational activities usually include weapon making, art, music, dance.
The Descry people are generally sociable and eager to learn. It is desirable when going through a rough time to talk to a Descry, because they are some of the best listeners. They communicate with each other very well, and for the most part they will go out of their way to help anyone in need. It is quite common for a Descry to help someone through anything.
The Descry form of currency are a set of minerals such as quartz, gold silver, rupee. These are made from the minerals dug up from the lake and the shores. These minerals wash up or are found in the bed of the sea, and are widely used for currency. Although they use this currency, some traders will still use the barter system. Some of the most expensive items can be bough through trading. One thing that is to be noted is that the shards from the dead suns that they use to make enchanted weaponry are NOT sold on any market. It is against to law to sell the sun shards.
Generally in the Descry culture, marriage is between a male and a female. Same sex relationships are not looked down upon, but are not seen as a marriage. Therefore homosexual Descry people cannot have a marriage, but still have relationship status. The Descry do not discriminate in a person’s sexual orientation. Although same sex relationships are not common in Descry culture, they are not looked down upon. They cannot have same sex marriage because of the way names are passed down through family. Same sex couples cannot mate, and therefore cannot bare children, and cannot pass a name down to a child. Inter species marriage is legal, and they can bare offspring. Unfortunatly, most children born from a mix of Descry and another heritage lose certain abilities but could also gain new abilities. This is also not a common form of marriage.
Sciences/inventions :: Their inventions are explained mostly through their observation towers, their knowledge of the universe, the enchanted Entice weapons. Their most important contribute to science is their knowledge of the universe, astronomy, and their tracking of the stars.
Languages:: The original Descry language sounds old. It is considered one of the oldest languages. It is interesting sounding because of its focus on vowels. Some Descrian words are used in a day to day basis within the Descrian cities, but they picked up on the lexophile language quite quickly. They were enthralled with the language, and have become very fluent in it within a short period of time. It is spoken the most, and Descrian language is mostly spoken amongst The Council of the Stars.
City description :: The Descry own two major cities. The one to the east of the volcano is called Luna. The city of Luna is not a humongous city (for the Descry Population is not large) But the city is still classified a city. It has buildings, many parks, residential areas, and a main road in which all the parades, shops, and celebrations are. The city also has a boardwalk that goes into the lake. The city of Luna never sleeps, and has events and activities every night and day. When decorations are out, the city of Luna is immaculately beautiful. Luna is also the home of the Esoterics, a few army bases, and The Council Of The Stars.
The city to the west of the volcano is called Eclipse, and for a very apt reason. The city is often shrouded in darkness when the sun is hidden by the mountains and the volcano. This provides for some of the most interesting scenery. Eclipse is not as large as Luna, but still is a city. Eclipse is the only major city that is in distance of the farms and agriculture plains. Eclipse is also closer to the volcano, and makes for easier access. Therefore a lot of blacksmiths live in Eclipse. Eclipse serves as the city in which soldiers stay when going through training.
Population:: The population of the Descry people is not large. A medium sized civilization. The majority of their population is between the ages of 18 to 30.
Law:: The laws are quite interesting. The basic no stealing, killing, cheating on a spouse, rape, etc apply. The consequences for breaking these rules are severe, so the crime rate of the Descrian cities are generally low. Murder, Rape, and other major offences result in death by a death panel. Minor offences have a warning, 2nd offence is isolation, and 3rd offence is isolation and torture. If you keep repeating offences, then a minor offence repeated could result in getting death. Although the consequences for crime is very high, the crime rate is relatively low, and a police force is hardly needed.
