Going back up to the mountains, up to the caves where many dragons were said to have been spotted, Drake and Gavin are snatched up and taken prisoner by a great red dragon. She takes them to her cave, where Drake exposes his own identity to her. Becoming suddenly excited over seeing Drake turn into a dragon, the red dragon does something neither expected. She turns into a beautiful human woman. She tells them that her name is Tanit. When asked how she can turn into a human, she confesses to them that all dragons possess the ability to change into a human body, but most refuse to because of their low view of humans. She explains, then, that she doesn't mind turning into a human form because she was born with half human blood, and she'd thought she was the last one. But then she'd thought she was also the last red dragon, and obvious by Drake's scales she is not. They ask how she escaped her parents' punishments. She tells them that her mother agreed to kill her father if Samael would let the child live and he agreed, gathering all the dragons to watch the execution. Her mother was still exiled, but she was free to live a normal life among her own kind. Then she starts flirting with Gavin, asking if Drake will share his pet and hanging all over Gav. Drake because furiously jealous and explodes at Tanit, feeling the instinctual urge to challenge the other dragon to a fight over Gavin. Drake is a much bigger dragon than Tanit is, so Tanit backs off and tells them that if Drake wants to know about how to control his own powers, he should go to Tanit's teacher, the wind dragon Volos. They agree and leave her to look for Volos.
