I met with Labtech X on Monday. He was every bit as menacing as I had been lead to believe. A mountain of a man, with a mask and scarf covering his face and neck. Our meeting was somewhat bizarre, looking back at it. He entered my lab in silence, and inspected the layout very carefully, looking in odd places that I would have never imagined a person to look. He checked under every single drawer, and even at one point climbed onto a table to pull back a ceiling tile. I remained stoic through this entire investigation. I don't know what he was looking for.
At the end of his seemingly infinite search, he asked me how I was infected with the virus. I explained carefully that it was during the 2005 outbreak when all the grunnies were released from G-Corp and released on Gaia. He asked if I had any ties with G-Corp. I told him I had applied at one point in time, but that I was told my ethics did not match those of the company, whatever that means. At this point he had a mad look about him, and I decided I had better change the subject.
I timidly brought up my research. I wanted to explain my hypothesis and the strives I had made towards making Gaia a better world. "Through my research," I finished, "I believe we can go further than G-Corp ever did, even during it's prime." This enraged X. I had said the wrong thing. "G-Corp only works in death," Labtech X spat, moving in on me, "NeXus works only with lifeforce energy, yet if you were to ask an average Gaian who has done the most for science on Gaia, 90% would claim G-Corp. Do you know why this is?" I shook my head ever so slightly no. Labtech X was so close to me now, I could see the stitching in detail on his mask. "People are fools!" With those final three words, he stormed out of my lab.
I must have royally made him angry, because as of two days ago, I have been confined to my quarters. I have only seen the medical team for my treatments, and each evening to hand off the sleeping medicine.
I am hoping this is only a temporary situation. I would very much like to get back to my research. I am certain they can't keep me here. I am a citizen of Gaia. Even grombies have rights.
Hell, if they are going to fire me, I'd assume they just get on with it, though I would like to have a chance to get a copy of my data so I can bring it elsewhere.
