In my favorite Holly Black book, Valiant, she creates a character named Ravus, a troll who is very tall with black dreadlocks, sharp teeth, and a thing for... well, magic. He makes medicine for the folk (faeries) who live in the city. Iron hurts folk. My character looks nothing like Ravus, but he is basically a troll. He can't go out during the day or he turns to stone, he can live for up to three hours without his heart, and he never does something haft heartedly.

Shahrazad was the wife of a king in Arabia who, after a days work was done, would have his wife tell him a story. It was customary, for him, to cut off his wife's head when the tale was finished.
Now, Shahrazad was a beautiful peasant with a sister and family. When she was picked to be his wife, she plotted way to not die and give her family the life they deserved. So, that night, when her husband asked her to tell her a story, she painted an elaborate tale. But, just at the best part, with her husband on the edge of his seat (So to speak as they were in bed. ^^), she fell asleep.
And so, the next night, She told him the ending, then started anouther story. And on and on it went. She'd tell him the ending of the story from the night before and then start another tale, just to fall asleep at the best part.
Shahrazad managed to keep this scam up for 1001 night. The tales she told were retold by the Arabian people, until they meet the ears of Antoine Galland, a frenchman, who wrote them all down and called them A Thousand and One Arabian Nights. Just some backround for those who have never heard of Shahrazad.
