I’m quite relieved to report that Eric and I made it out of the pit in one piece. I thought of it while looking around the bottom by the light of my glow stick. If we could some how signal with the only source of light we had, maybe some one would see it. It was Eric’s idea to tie a glow stick to the end of his fishing line and toss it up around the tree branch we could see hanging over the mouth of the pit. Plus, for added effect, we kept tugging on the line to cause some movement and sound.
It took awhile before anyone caught sight of it, so we had some time to get to know each other. Eric comes from Oswego, where his parents own a farm. He has an older sister training to be a pilot, and a cousin who is also a gaiamancer. Eric told me he really likes music and can play a few instruments including the clarinet. In fact, he was really at odds with himself over deciding whether to pursue gaiamancy or music. He says he could help out his parent’s farm more as a gaiamancer than as a musician. Plus, he seems to have a knack for it, even if his aim is a little off.
