The secret is out: Daily Chance
So over these past few weeks I'd been teasing people hints of a feature I was building. It was actually leaked last Friday that someone was building a feature called the "Daily Chance" due to a glitch in the help system combined with certain nosey Gaians.
Well, those who saw it correctly guessed it was my feature, and a couple days later the feature was launched flawlessly.
Wait, that's not how it went!
Okay, so it didn't launch flawlessly. In fact, for a brief while, the Gaian economy plummeted. Okay, that's an overstatement. A bunch of rare fish were given out, and rare fish weren't so rare anymore, devaluing them significantly.
So what? Fisherman are supposed to be poor!
On top of that a bunch of "test housing items" made it into people's inventories. These items don't really DO anything, but they were not meant to make it into people's inventories, and they were rare indeed.
On top of that, rare bugs and unreleased flowers abounded.
Okay, it was pretty bad. We had to rollback a ton of transactions and clean up a bunch of items. Actually, I only knew enough about the site to BREAK it, not to FIX it, so I want to say:
Major thanks to all the developers, admins, and mods who fixed this big problem. And major apologies for letting it happen in the first place!.
Mad with the sickness
Daily Chance re-launched successfully on Tuesday, but just before we released it I was feeling pretty tired and dizzy. I barely made it through the day, and I took the next couple of days off to regain my bearings. Thanks to all the Gaians who sent me messages of support and well-wishing.
Daily Chances
I wanted to mention a couple of things about the Daily Chance:
* No, you no longer have a chance of winning donation items
* Yes, there are still chances of winning things that are very, very valuable, but they're rarely granted.
* You can claim the Daily Chance on EVERY landing page of the site: Home, My Gaia, Community, Games, and World.
* Each item relates to the page it's acquired on. Eventually we hope to add more "cheap" items that aren't just trash, bugs, and inks -- or maybe we'll try to make these more useful to you!
Gaia Trek: The Next Generation
NOTE: The title of this is a reference to Star Trek: The Next Generation. Not a reference to a certain feature people have been looking forward to!
For those who have asked, yes, I've started on my bigger project. Yes it will be cool, yes it's something big, yes it should have a bigger impact on Gaia than Daily Chance.
Unlike Daily Chance, however, I won't give hints.

Suffice to say that it'll be keeping me busy, and apologies in advance over the next couple months if my responses are a little slower than usual, or my activity level on Gaia is lessed somewhat.
