I'm trying to believe in something
That I heard about in a story one day, a long time ago.
A funny fairy tale about something
you promised in words you can't say.
I'll read every word you write,
Every mark on the page,
Trying to interpret every last character,
Right down to the ink stains.

I wrote you a message in harmless prose.
Something I've told you since
The first day you ever said my name
Or held me in your thoughts.
I always wonder if you see it,
if you understand it,
or feel it like I do.
I try not to get ahead of myself.
I try to push it all away to a place
Where I don't wonder anymore.

Its a pain that I feel with you
But makes me want to get closer.
I can't get it out of my head
and I can't stand it.
We're worlds away from where
we should be.
Both of us in places where we can't see.
Then I find you and I see clearly again.

I hear a voice I've never heard before
Yet I know exactly who it is.
Words hanging on lips
But pulled back at the last instance
Because I'm too afraid
That you'll shake your head
And be like all of the other ones.

I just wanted to tell you.
To let you know.

Not like its anything you haven't heard, though.
