Revenge Is Sweet
Chapter 11
“You’re a Lamport, aren’t you.” He said, more of a statement than a question.
“Yeah.” I said uncertainly, wondering how he knew my last name.
“I knew it!” he said, smiling. “You have your mother’s eyes.”
“You knew my parents?!”
“Well, of course. Your dad was my parent’s friend, and your mom was the paramedic who let my mom die.” He said it as if it didn’t matter that his mother was dead.
No one talks about my mother that way. “My mother would not have just let your mother die!” I said, angrily. “She would desperately try to save anyone she could. She was never around for me or Liana because she was out all the time saving people.”
“Oh, come on. No one actually loves their mother. Parents are just there to make your life miserable.”
My eyes turned blood red. Kai put his hand on my shoulder trying to calm me down but I was ready to kill. Despite my sprained ankle, I launched myself full force at him. I would have hit him too if Kai hadn’t used his speed and gotten between me and Jaguar. Jaguar had moved out the way as I bowled Kai over, both of us falling backward and hitting the ground. I didn’t technically hit the ground because Kai was under me.
I quickly got off of him, blushing but still pissed. Kitra walked quickly over to Jaguar, looking pissed, and smacked his face as hard as she could. “If you ever talk that way to Kairi again, I will make you regret it for the rest of your life.” I had never seen her so pissed.
I stood up, again ignoring the pain, and limped off into the woods. Kai quickly got up and grabbed my arm but I shook him off and kept walking, tears now streaming down my face.
He grabbed my arm again this time firmer. We had gotten relatively far in the woods; I could no longer see Kitra, Jaguar, or even the clearing. I sat down on the forest floor, ignoring Kai, the tears still streaming down my face.
Kai sat there watching me and I was getting uncomfortable. I wished he would stop. I hated crying in front of people. It made me feel weak, like I couldn’t control my feelings.
I was getting tired. I couldn’t keep my eyes open. I sat there for a while trying not to fall asleep. I didn’t want to go back to the clearing tonight. I was unexpectedly pulled into Kai’s lap. He wrapped him arms around me. I resisted but his grip just got tighter so I stopped.
“Kai, let go of me.”
“No.”
“Why?!” I started struggling again.
“Do I need a reason?”
“Yes”
“Alright, hold on a second while I think of one.”
I thought about what would happen if someone saw me sitting in Kai’s lap. It was then I realized that there was no one around except Kitra and Jaguar. Kitra was probably giving him a really hard time. I finally relaxed and welcomed his warm hug. I wished we could stay like this forever. I closed my eyes.
Do I really love Kai?
Wow, you’re dense.
Why can’t you leave me alone?
Because I am you. Oh by the way, Kai loves you.
And how do you know.

If voices could smack you then this one would have smacked me really hard in the back of the head.
Did you totally disregard everything Kitra was saying to you during the yelling of Kai and Jaguar?
I guess so because I don’t really remember Kitra saying anything.
You didn’t hear her tell you that Kai likes you.
No, I must have missed that part.
You’re hopeless.

I shifted my position the slightest bit and Kai’s eyes shot open and his grip on me tightened.
“Kai, you’re hurting me.” I said, his grip so tight I could barely breathe. He loosened his gripped.
“Sorry.” He said. He looked pale. Had he been having a nightmare?
“What’s wrong?” I asked. I didn’t think he was going to answer me.
“Nothing.” Just the answer I thought I was going to get.
“Are you sure?” I asked watching the color slowly come back into his face.
“Yeah.” He said, closing his eyes again.
I closed my eyes, extremely tired. I couldn’t get to sleep. I opened my eyes again. I wanted to go for a walk in the forest but I dared not move for Kai might have the same reaction. What could have caused such a reaction? I finally slept thinking about it.
I was woken up by laughter. I opened my eyes to see Kitra and Jaguar staring at me and laughing. I quickly realized that Kai still had his arm around me.
“Shut up and help me up.” I said, not bothering to move Kai’s arm. I didn’t care whether I woke him up or not, it was time for us to get moving anyway. His arms were tightly wrapped me.
Jaguar walked over to me and picked me up by the waste. Kai shot open and the next thing I knew, Kai had Jaguar against a tree with his arm against Jaguar’s throat threatening to choke him if he moved. I was pulled possessively against Kai.
“Try and take her again and I’ll kill you.” He said, his voice dripping with cruelty.
“I wasn’t trying to take her. I was helping her up.” Jaguar said. Kitra stood to the side trying to figure out what to do.
Kai stood there for a second then realized who he was pinning to the tree. He lowered his arm but kept hold of me.
I stared at his face, wondering what the hell was wrong with him. Why was he getting so possessive all of a sudden?
I pushed myself away from him. “Okay, Kai. You can let go of me now.”
He quickly let go of me. “Sorry.”
“What’s wrong with you?” I asked, concerned.
He got close to my ear. I almost backed away but he whispered something in my ear. “I can’t tell you until they’re gone.” I nodded as he picked me up bridal style.
“Kairi and I are going to find some fire wood.” He said, running off with me farther into the forest.
