This is a bug called a Huhu beetle which I guess is found only here in New Zealand.
This one (which I named Jack Bauer) was on the side of a Pizza box on our porch which should give you an indication of its humungous size >___>
Ive had many experiences with Huhu beetles all of which involve flying directly into my face and on one memorable night, dropping onto the computer keyboard as I was typing. - Date: 04/18/2010
