• I watch the snow fall and wonder what you think
I know you've never seen snow before this chilly night
You are mostly still, breathing unsteadily when you shiver
I tell you what it is, this 'white, cold sand'
I take some of it into my hand
You stare at it with wonder and amazement
But shove it away when I try entertaining you with it
I'm not sure if your afraid or not
Though I know, myself, how unusual this sight is
Soon, it is time for us to go back
To our home, the windows fogged from the warmth inside
    You hesitate, and I understand
As I watch you turn your head back at it one last time
The night was long, but we finally fell asleep
But in the middle of the night I drifted out of my dream
You were not with me, as you usually are
I search for you restlessly, terrified
    I soon find myself outside
I feel my heart sigh with relief at your sight
But what truly makes my heart beat happily is seeing you there
A small silhouette in that thick blanket of white sand
I realized what was in your hand
A small flower, somehow frozen from the cold
You turned to look to me
Your wide eyes that reflected the clear stars in them
You gently took my hand and placed the crystallized gift in my palm
On that night, with the air so fresh and the moon and stars so bright
You finally said, 'Merry Christmas, Mommy.'
