Wake up one morning and touch the window,
Tiny ice crystals left on the chilled glass.
Hang up holiday lights and mistletoe;
Festoon your future days with gold and brass.
Air smells of gingerbread and evergreens,
Small attributes that lock us in a trance.
The frozen lake starts to blend in the scenes;
Let the lone wind sing, let the lone wind dance
Trees have turned bare and give off a sad sight--
Tomorrow they shall be draped in snow's lace.
Autumn withdraws her pretty face tonight
For a silent wonder fastens her pace.
Child, hear the little bells softly humming?
Mellifluous signs of Winter coming.

- Title: Signs of Winter Coming
- Artist: WishingBunny
- Description: This is a sonnet about welcoming winter and its holidays. I capitalized autumn and winter because I personified them. I tried to capture the idea of waking up and thinking, "Wow, winter's coming! Winter's already here!" This poem sounds best when read aloud for each line has 10 syllables. The first line rhymes with the third, the second line with the fourth, etc, but the 13th and 14th lines rhyme with each other. I hope you enjoy reading this; it has been a pleasure to compose. (:
