• Freezing fingertips graze the frosted window panes,
Leaving beads of water in their wake.
Outside, at a steady pace, the snow swirls in delicate waves,
Coating my world in a fluffy blanket of white wonder.
Like tiny ice skaters I watch as my handprint vanishes from the window, once again laced with new frost.
I cuddle closer to the cold window, as a bubble of laughter washes over me.
The snow spins faster now, and my heart beat begins to quicken.
Hush, he’ll come, they all tell me, Join us by the fire,
But I know that Christmas Eve can not go on, not until you’re by my side once again.
Hot cider and coco is passed out, and the steam that once arose from my cup is all but gone.
The clock rings out and I echo in a sigh, eight o’clock, you’re two hours late.
Suddenly I see a thick black shape form in the endless blanket of white,
I spring to my feet and throw the door open, letting the snow fall in from the outside.
The figure begins to run, and I can’t hold back the smile, curling at my lips.
    Finally you’re here at last!
Still coated in the frigid snow, you scoop me up and spin me about.
I’m sorry I’m so late, but I had to get you the perfect gift, you whisper.
You’re here now, that’s all that matters. You are my perfect gift, I whisper back.
Christmas isn’t really Christmas until you spend it with everyone you love.
