• She felt cold, useless, and numb. Like everything she tried didn’t matter to anyone. As she sat in the cold, lonely corner, holding her knees close to her body, she thought of how she used to be; a bright happy little girl, who didn’t have a care in the world. A risk-taker. She would smile when everyone else was sad, and laugh when people cried. She was different. She wanted things to go back to how they used to be. Back when she couldn’t speak to people because of how shy she was. Back when she would try so hard to be like him. Before she knew what life would bring, when she was naive and careless. But now she knew. She knew the world wasn’t a happy place. She knew he wasn’t perfect, or even a great role model. Now she just stops smiling. When the world is sad, she looks for the little girl who laughs…..but a replacement is nowhere to be found. She cries. In the dark room, the only sound to be heard is the small sound of her sobs. She tried so hard to be perfect. She wanted people to be happy. She wanted people to notice her. Why? Because, even though she had grown, somewhere deep inside is that little girl. The young risk-taker. A small hand grabs her face and lifts it. Through tears, she can see a small face. A ghost, she thought. The ghost of the little girl inside of her. She seemed perfect. So small and helpless, yet trying to act big and strong. A smile is spread across the ghost’s face, and the room began to glow. The cold escaped the room; letting waves of heat wrap her. The ghost leaned to her ear only to whisper "Remember." and with that, the ghost was gone. She curled back into her ball, still warm from the odd ghost’s smile. The word echoed through the room. She remembered. He was still hers. He had never let her go, and he was still waiting for her to crawl back to him, like she did when they would fight. He was still her love. She was still the little girl. A smile spread across her face. The tears still rolled down in streams. She found who she really was. She was trapped inside of herself. The little girl was now free, and at that thought, she laughed lightly to herself. The doctor walked into the room to give her the medicine. As he walked out, she stopped laughing. The little girl was gone as soon as she had come. She slowly fell back to sleep. She felt cold, useless, and numb.
