• “You have the nerve to tell me that I am not human?”

He was amused, as he should, for he himself was being questioned by a man who he thought in his upmost opinion was a far more inhuman creature then himself. Reaching for his cigarette he settled it in between his fingers and readied himself for an explanation. Though it would be rather short and to the point, as was this mans way of thinking, along the lines of himself. He didn’t romanticized like most creatures in giving long winded speeches of “his” superiority.

“Yes, I can say I have.”

    That was that.

The other man threw out a pawn into the field of play. It was then it begun, this verbal chess match. Oh yes this would certainly be an amusing way to spend an evening. The other man smirked and took a drag of his own cigarette.

“Well you’ve taken a stab on my weighted morels and judgments. But I counter with this. You are less human than I am as well and I can give the exact reasons. But I will let you have your turn to speak.”
He studied the other man. He also had a hard face to read given at the appropriate moments. But from he could tell the other man rather enjoyed himself that he was being called to defend and accepted the challenge. Yes interesting indeed.

The other settled himself in the chair before him before beginning took another drag from his cigarette and looked like he mulled over the words in his mind before he could begin. With an approving smirk of satisfaction he breathed out deeply, contented.

“For a man who knows everything you seemed to be quite content with the fact that you have an attitude that drives people away.”

    “As do you sir.”

“Ah ah, “ The other tut-tuted a smirk still on his face he was still enjoying the game. “I still have the floor for my explanations. All counters must wait till I left the floor.”

This could only be rewarded by a sly smile he could give at the man. A game perhaps but this was something more than a game deep inside. He knew the both of them took pleasure of out doing the other and to give high marks for intelligence after all, both men had a greater ego then they would admit. He let out his hand to gesture to the other gentlemen to continue.

“But ,” the other man started again. “I know the better and it’s not because of your reputation of helping people. You were never liked at all as a child. You don’t talk about your past much and even concerning your rather meager childhood. Which I am sure you loathed because you were a handful. No one likes a child that is different.”

At this he could only look amused. It was rather an unusual approach on starting his arsenal. Yes the other man laid out his pawns first. Meaningless of course in the beginning but once you got towards the end pawns happen to be key points no matter how lowly they looked. He tilted his head interested and mulled over that statement. Psychologist sometimes say that a persons perception on life does begin roughly in childhood. Though if this was a psychological treatment he would rather leave it to a professional.

“Well I certainly didn’t strip a rabbit from his skin without batting an eye. But my childhood I should say was a shapely one. As was yours. You yourself handled diversity but at a different circumstance. From the words of your own mouth no one did like a child that was different. But like all children they grow to handle it even if it means—“

“Battling for attention and then being pushed aside as you were. Then of course you handled yourself by complete and utter—“

“Isolation which lead to where you are now. Are you supposed to be supporting your case now? What is your bloody point sir.”

He pulled out his knight and blocked every single one of his pawns.
The other looked impressed at this exchange of words and decided to get on with the real reason and not go prancing about the bush. This was only the start and test of his abilities and he could see the other man only wanted to push so far and then drive at something else.

“You frankly don’t give a damn don’t you?” The other man grinned. This allowed himself to grin as well.

    “I frankly don’t.”

“Then I suppose seeing another man killed made you a completely different man.”

A knight came out of nowhere shot out behind the insignificant pawns and overtook his own knight. He sat there silent for a while and he thought back to that event. It shook him a little bit but he wasn’t the only one who witnessed such a traumatic event of his life.

“You stopped being innocent from that incident. You stopped caring from that point on. What really happened on that day?”
The other man advanced with such delicate force that it was upon him for not getting himself cornered easily. He moved stealthily around the other mans flank.

“I can say about yourself. You haven’t been such a saint either sir. Infact yours falls on a particular dramatic event that could only thought up in dime novels.”

“Such as yours.” The other man replied curtly.

“Lets not get into low blows.” His smirked faded a bit but he did not allow to give the other man the upper hand in the game. “Yes things happened such as yours that had psychological effects. Especially when in getting into crime. Especially when it concerned murder, but in petty sort. Though one thing most people can say most criminal minds don’t reform into those upstanding citizens. You still have that ferocity and cold cunning that you’ve obtained and learned as a child. ”

His eyes bore into the other gentlemen’s and they stared down for a moment or so. Until the other broke the silence.

“And you are no different after your point. Now here is my point to you. ”

He blinked and seated upright to hear this.

“Don’t think I have been lollygagging in some dream world, I read the papers and noticed a few irregularities at the time when the Times had published several murder cases that had the police baffled. An idle mind is the devils playground wouldn’t you say. A little bit too bored and you have lacked in sympathy greatly.”

This could only manage a quirked eyebrow and a bark of laughter. This left the other man startled at the response.

“Which brings us to the present.” He had to give it to the man to come up with an explination of that great magnitude the man had done his homework. Though he lacked evidence to support his hypothisis, he was certainly pleased.

“And you haven’t been a complete angel either. No reformed criminal hasn’t been since their first murder and to at least turn to it. You had your share of murders and you think it was for the just cause. Tell me something sir, how many people know you personally enough that you would share you most dipicable crimes to that you keep hidden in your dreams. None?”

    “How would you—“

Now he was going for blood.

“for a man who has enough power to deliver death itself to a single individual I know that even you have tempted to toy with something of that caliber it isn’t beyond your reach and in fact you rather enjoy it for the most part because you—“

“Are just the type of person who would be fascinated and have an egotistical high that you are the superior one when—“

“You hide under that pretentious, humble disguise that most people know you for. I know a deranged genius when I see one it all starts out when—“

“They slowly realize that they are different from the rest of the simpletons that around you and you begin to acknowledge it and slowly—“

“Manipulate everyone around them in a twisting lie until they have no idea that everything they’ve been told is either fake or the truth. But you know from experience that—“

“Its just a game. And being the most smartest person is what it takes and having absolute power—“

“To kill someone and get away with it and go to sleep at night peacefully”
“And that what makes you a”

    “Monster.” Both had finished panting.

Both kings left on the board.
