• There was once a time when Sun and Earth were good friends. They had such fun as the sun would swing the earth around in circles. There was never an argument or disagreement between the two until one day when Earth began to cry.

“Earth, why are you crying?” Sun asked, confused by Earth's crying. Earth had never cried before, and it made Sun worry about his friend. Earth sniffled, hoping to keep her nose from running. She looked angry and her reply was bitter.

“What do you mean why am I crying?” Her reply made Sun feel worse. Had he done something to offend Earth? As far as he was concerned he did nothing that would make Earth cry. His baffled expression must have shown, because Earth continued on. “I'm crying because you burned me!” She yelled through her tears. Earth turned to her side to show Sun the horror. “Look! It's all dry and burnt!”

Sun was indeed horrified at the sight. He did not mean to burn Earth. It was just an accident. “I really am sorry, Earth. I didn't mean to burn you. It was an accident.” Sun was sincere with his apology, but Earth was not taking it. She just laughed bitterly.

“I highly doubt that it was just an accident. You meant to burn me!” Earth huffed. It wasn't because she was hurt that made her angry and sad; it was because it was her dear friend that hurt her. An act she wasn't likely to forgive anytime soon. Earth cleared her throat and turned to Sun. “Because of what you did, I don't want to see you!” Earth shouted. She turned her back on Sun, who was really hurt by Earth's words.

For many days, Sun tried to apologize to Earth who would face Sun just long enough to spit her refusal to forgive him. As much as both would have liked to keep their arguments to themselves, Sun and Earth often had their friend Moon listening to their unwillingness to forgive and forget.

Finally one day, Moon got fed up with Sun and Earth's bickering. She stepped in between them, hoping to somehow stop the angry words long enough to get her point across. “Enough!” She shouted, shocking both Sun and Earth. Neither thought Moon had it in her to yell. Moon definitely had their attention.

“Earth, I know it hurts to be hurt by a friend whom you trust.” Moon looked at Earth, before turning to Sun. “Sun, I know it hurts that you have the accident brought up constantly, and that it hurts to know a friend doesn't trust you anymore.” Moon stopped to take a breath as well as to let her words sink in. “However, both of you need to realize that bickering and arguing are never going to solve your problems. In the end all it does is hurt your friendship more.” Moon knew that Sun and Earth wanted to be friends again, but they just did not know how to fix the problem.

“Please understand that the past hurts and can hurt, but you have to put it behind you. The only way you can do that is for you, Earth, to forgive Sun for the purely accidental burning and not to remain bitter at him, and for you, Sun, ask for forgiveness for becoming bitter because Earth refused to forgive you.” Moon looked at them expectantly.

Sun and Earth sighed together. They both knew Moon was right. “I'm sorry for becoming bitter and angry at you Sun for an accident.” Earth said humbly, finally realizing she had hurt Sun. Moon smiled at Earth and turned to Sun who sighed again. “And I am sorry for the bitterness I had toward you because you did not forgive me.” Moon was beaming with happiness. Earth and Sun smiled to each other and Moon.

And so it was from that day on, Earth turned her back on Sun, not to remind him of the hurt he had caused, but rather to think of kind things to say to Sun and to think of fun things to talk about.
