Cory Winfield walked tiredly home from a late shift at the local LAN center; he scratched his head as he walked past the police station. As he walked home he noticed a young girl of about 19 walking towards him, being 21 himself he couldn’t help but look at her with coveting eyes, as she walked past he turned to watch her leave until he felt the cold hard metal of a street sign, he hoped the girl didn’t hear his yelp of pain as his head met hard metal but she turned and then laughed and went back on her way. He too turned and started to walk home only this time he was rubbing his head.

As Cory arrived home he slightly felt like something had gone wrong, he couldn’t quite put his finger on it but it was there, he walked down the corridor towards his apartment as he fumbled in his pocket for his keys. “Stay back” a voice whispered in his head,
    “Huh?” he asked out loud,
“Stay back” the voice came again,
    “Who’s there?” Cory asked
“Please stay back,” The voice said again but this time as it whispered in his head it also sounded like it was being spoken from behind him and yelled at him from a far distance,
“What the ********” He exclaimed as he stood in the same spot,
“Please run away, their coming” the voice came again in the whispertalkshout way,
    “Who’s coming?”
    “Please just run away”
“Hello?” Cory said then the lights flickered and then died plunging the hallway into pitch black, Cory strained to look out the window but outside was pitch black as well,
“What’s happening?” Cory said now scared,
“They’re here” The voice said again
Cory ran his hand across the wall as he walked slowly forward, it felt like there was a thick blanket of goo covering the wall, his fingers ran over a number, ‘26’ only three more doors to go,
“No please leave him alone” the voice quivered meekly
Cory could see now in the dark as his eyes had adjusted he could see the little girl cowering in the corner, Cory crouched as he neared her, she was in front of his door,
“Hey little girl, where are your parents?” He asked
“Dead” the same voice as before, and what was stranger was the fact that although the girl was looking at him her lips didn’t move,
“What do you mean dead?” Cory asked calmly
“They killed us” The little girl stood up and walked slowly towards him
“What do you mean they killed them?”
“No not them, us, Mommy, Daddy and me”
“Come now this isn’t a game, you shouldn’t be out this late” Cory said as he got onto his knee,
“I'm not lying” The voice came out as a very close scream now, the little girl turned and Cory fell back in shock as he saw the axe buried deep into the back of her skull,
“What the ********” Cory yelled as he stood and started to run towards the exit
“Please don’t leave me with them” the little girl screamed at him.

As Cory emerged from the apartment block the bright morning sun blinded him, he ran as fast as he could, he didn’t even turn around as he heard a final scream come from behind him. He neared his target and stopped, he only just noticed that the busy street was empty bar a few cars littering the street, but he just brushed it off as he remembered his goal, he ran into the open doors of the police station, the front was empty so he ran out the back which wasn’t quite as empty.

Cory slowly looked at all the dead bodies littering the back of the cop shop, he slowly walked in carefully trying not to step on anyone, he looked about scared until he heard sobbing coming from a back room, he then started to walk normally not even worrying about the dead guy he just stepped on until he was standing in the doorway looking at the 19 year old girl from earlier, she sat with her back up to a wall as she clutched onto the 9mm pistol,
“Hey” Cory said quietly trying not to scare her,
She looked up and Cory could see that she was responsible for the bloodbath that he currently was standing in; he could see it in her eyes.

“Hey, why don’t we put down the gun ok?” Cory asked to which she replied by raising it up to her head and pulling the trigger, Cory cringed and looked away but after the dry click sound he realized that the gun was empty. He rushed in to her and grabbed the gun from her hand which was still dry firing,
“They’re all dead,” She finally said after a few moments “They tried to rape me, they tried to kill me, my own dad tried” She stopped before she could finish her sentence but Cory knew what she was going to say and from the look of her torn clothes in the other corner of the room he knew she wasn’t lying. Cory handed her his jacket and she hugged it like a teddy bear so he turned and waited for her to put it on but after what seemed like five minutes he turned back around to see that she was still clutching onto it for dear life. This was the first time that he actually looked at his hands to see the mass of blood all over them, he thought hard for a moment trying to figure where it had all came from until he remembered his apartment block, ‘They were covered in blood’ He thought, “What the ******** is going on around here?” He yelled to no one. He walked over to her and put his hands under her arms and got her to stand up, because she was completely naked he tried not to look at her as he grabbed the jacket from her clutch and then put it around her.

As he started to walk out of the back room he heard a strange sound coming from the front which was followed by a man walking in with half his face hanging off his skull and a rather large butchers knife in his hand, Cory tried to calm the man which only resulted in the man lunging at him, Cory spotted a weapon on the floor by his feet but it was too late to grab the shot gun but as he waited for the presumably searing pain of the knife he heard a loud gun shot and the man went flying into a near by desk, Cory turned to see the girl standing there with another 9mm handgun, “Thank you” Cory said.

They searched the police station for weapons and piled all that they could find into a couple of duffel bags, they also took medical supplies and some useful items like rope, some radios, a couple of flash lights, four pairs of hand cuffs and more stuff like that. They walked out the front but stopped as the girl screamed, Cory looked at her and then in the direction of where she was looking. He saw the hordes of people walking towards them. Cory looked about before he saw what he was looking for, a car, door wide open and sure enough the keys still in the ignition, “Hurry up, this way” He yelled at her as he ran to the car and jumped in, the girl followed suit and threw the bags into the back seat. They both slammed there doors shut and Cory tried starting the engine, nothing but a splutter so he tried again only to get another splutter. By this time the crowd had gotten into arms length of the car and the girl opened the sun roof and motioned for the shotgun sitting at the top of one of the bags, Cory grabbed it and placed it into her hand, she cocked it and then let a round go off into the crowed, she cocked it again and the shell bounced on the roof and rolled in hitting Cory on the back of the neck, “******** oww” he cried out and she said the first coherent thing she had said,
“Sorry, just get this car,” before she could finish the sentence she seemed to raise up and Cory looked out the wind and saw that one of them had grabbed the shot gun and she was playing tug of war with it. Just as she seemed to be winning another crowd member grabbed her arm and was trying to pull her out of the car, as this happened her grip on the shotgun had came undone and the man trying to steal it was now pointing it lazily at Cory, and just as the girl was only holding on by a thread the car spluttered to life and Cory reversed into the direction of which the girl was being pulled as he held onto her leg, the next thing he noticed was his jacket falling past the car.

Cory spent the first part of the drive looking straight ahead trying his best not to look at her, “Don’t worry, it’s not like I haven’t been seen naked before?” She finally said,
“I’m sorry it’s just that it seems cheap given the situation and all” Cory replied still looking dead ahead,
“I'm Kayla by the way” the girl said
    “Cory” Cory replied
“For ******** sake, just look at me all ready, you know you want to” She demanded
Cory looked at her for a few minutes before she screamed and pointed to the front of the car, Cory turned quickly with just enough time to miss the truck parked inconveniently in the middle of the road,
“For ******** sake I didn’t say stare dumbass” She said as she held her hand to her chest
“I'm sorry but you have a nice body” Cory looked embarrassed
“Thank you, just don’t take your eyes of the road” Kayla said firmly.

For what seemed like an hour they came up to a rather new looking building, it looked strange as there was nothing around it just empty earth, no traces of life what so ever, it seemed like they were in the middle of a desert but this building looked like it belonged in Perth or Sydney it was covered in glass and it spanned high up into the sky,
“Should we go in?” Cory asked as he stopped the car
“Sure, what harm could it do?” Kayla said after a few minutes.

They walked into the abandoned building and started to climb the stairs as it seemed liked the power was off. They didn’t know what they were looking for they just felt like this was the place to go. They climbed what seemed like three floors until they came to an open door, Cory walked in but stopped in the doorway blocking Kayla from entering,
    “What’s the holdup?” She asked
“I don’t know,” Cory looked puzzled as he turned to look at her as he spoke, “Umm lets.” He didn’t finish his sentence he just trailed off as he walked in stepping over a dead body,
“Ok, that was strange” Kayla said as she followed behind.
They walked for a bit until they came up to another dead body, as they stopped to look at it they heard a voice come from behind, Cory recognized the voice; it was the same talk, whisper and shout as before, he slowly turned to see the little girl.
