    Chapter one

    12 years later

The sun slowly rose into the smoke ridden sky. Multiple small fires were being lit across the city, as the commoners woke up for the day. Children and teens of varying ages played their games in the streets without fear of any cars; the street had been emptied of working vehicles weeks ago. Rosland's eyes widened as she continued to look around. "Hey, Iris!" She called once she had reached a large, abandoned building. Iris had been examining everything, a look of disgust on her face. Iris turned, and walked over to Rosland. "The kids are flowing with the disease...yes, this is a good place." Rosland looked over at her confused before realizing that Iris's eyes were free of any color but a milky white without pupils. Iris was using her Vampyre ability; she was looking through everything, her eyes allowing her to see the inside of everything with great detail. This explained how she knew about the disease, she could see the virus coursing through the kids' veins. Iris suddenly blinked, and her eyes turned back to their original dark blue. "Rosland get the others, I'll explore the inside of the building." Iris said calmly, walking a few paces closer. Rosland wondered why Iris was so determined to see the building by herself, but knew not to interfere. Rosland nodded before dashing in the other direction towards their campsite, her dark green trench coat flowing behind her. Rosland didn't even think about stopping until she was inches from their campfire. Then she suddenly did a front flip, causing her to flip over the fire, and land on her feet on the other side, a few feet away. "Damn Rozzy!" jasmine said her light pink eyes wide. "You're such a show off!" Lily said, giggling. "I had to stop somehow." Rosland said innocently.

Iris looked around the first floor taking in every detail as she slowly moved across the floor. When she reached the second story, and walked into the first room, her eyes widened. On the other side were two teens, a boy of merely 16, and the girl was about 15.The boy was against the wall, his hands were over his head, chained to the wall. The girl's head was rested in his lap. They both seemed to be asleep, and Iris was shocked to see that both of them were disease free and perfectly healthy. Upon more detailed inspection, she also realized that they were angels; but who would chain an angel in an abandoned building, and why would the girl be willing to stay with the boy? Okay this was just too weird, why would any angels be in such a city, and who would want them to suffer? Iris wanted answers and she wanted them now! She slammed her foot on the floor causing a loud bang that shook the large room. The girl flew into a sitting position, and stared at Iris, her amber eyes wide. The boy slowly opened his eyes, before flinching and pushing against the wall as if trying to crawl backwards.

As Rosland ran with the others on their way to the building, she looked around and was reminded of how thirsty she was. She hadn't had any blood in weeks, but she would never feed of any of the humans in this city. Their blood was already spoiled by the disease, plus she didn't like feeding off kids. "Rosland, you seem strangely pale." Vincent said, somehow matching paces with her. "I just need to feed." She replied nonchalantly. "If you're not willing to feed off me, then you're going to have to wait." Vincent said, a twang a pain in his voice. Rosland nodded. She knew that Vincent loved her, and had pledged his loyalty, but she couldn't stand taking his blood, no matter how good it tasted.

"What are you doing here?" Iris asked sternly, glaring at them, but focusing her stare on the girl. Suddenly all fear left the girl as she stood up, and stomped over to Iris, in a protective stance. Iris examined her before speaking, "Answer my question…it's not like you can defend yourself…and him." She finished, nodding towards the boy. All emotions escaped the girl except anger. "What does it matter to you!? Why are you here!? Why don't you just..." She was interrupted when Iris smacked her across the face. The girl stumbled back, and stared at the blood on her fingers. Iris suddenly remembered how sharp her nails were and rolled her eyes. Iris was evil, she knew it, and this girl was screwed whether she was an angel or not. Iris slowly walked towards her. Suddenly the door burst open, and in stumbled, Rosland, Vincent, Jazmine, and Lily. Iris stopped moving and turned, the girl glared, and the boy flinched and nearly squeaked. The instant Rosland stumbled past the girl and made eye contact with the boy, her heart skipped a beat. She could smell its bitter sweetness; she could hear its pulsing. Blood. Fresh, healthy, sweet, angel blood. Rosland –completely zoned out, and taken over by her instincts- slowly walked towards the boy, licking her lips. The boy's eyes widened with every step she took. "What is she doing!?" The girl shouted, walking towards Rosland. Vincent grabbed her wrist, and pulled her back. "Do not, get in the way of a blood bending Vamp and her victims." He said sternly, fighting the urge to stop her himself. By the time Rosland had reached the boy, tears were welling up in his dark blue eyes. Rosland knelt down on one knee, and lifted up the boy's chin, giving her a clear view of his neck. The boy dared not struggle as Rosland leaned forward, and bit into his neck. The boy flinched, but the wall stopped him from pulling away. "No!" screamed the girl as she tried in vain to free herself of Vincent's grip, and was forced to watch as her friend was drained of his life source. The boy began to pale, and his blood was all over both him and Rosland. Vincent threw the girl to Iris, and walked up to Rosland, "That's enough!" he said sternly. But Rosland did nothing, she continued to drink, the blood continued to pour, and the boy continued to die. "Rosland!" Vincent shouted, setting his hands on her shoulders, and pulling her away. Rosland snapped back to normal, and stared up at Vincent innocently. The boy gasped for air before falling to the side, his eyes closed. "Kyo!" the girl screamed over and over before Iris finally let her go. She ran up to the boy, and shook him screaming his name. Rosland was looking from herself to Vincent then to the girl. She did this multiple times before speaking, "Wh-wh-what happened?" "You! You killed him!" the girl screamed, smacking Rosland. Rosland was too stunned to do anything –plus she was too submissive to hit anyone- she killed someone? How? "You're such a freak! You killed Kyo! You monster!" the girl screamed before crumbling into a ball crying into her hands. Rosland stared at the boy shocked. How could she let this go!? She just killed one of the cutest teenage boys ever! Vincent suddenly pushed the girl to the side, and pulled out his dagger. He slit one cut across his wrist, and let the blood pour down the boy's throat. His eyes suddenly opened, and her lurched up. Vincent pulled away, and smiled. The girl just stared, and Rosland gawked. "You turned him into a ********' Vampyre!" Jazmine nearly shouted, giggling from nervousness. The girl stopped crying, and looked up, hopes filling her eyes. "Kyo!" She shouted, jumping up and hugging him. Vincent began to bandage his wrist –and the boy's neck- and Rosland sighed before cleaning off the blood from her shirt, and the boy's. When all was done, the boy finally spoke, "Wha-wha-what are you going t-to-to do with us?" He stuttered, his voice sweet and gentle. Jazmine walked over to him, and knelt down at his side. "It's okay, we're not going to hurt you." She said calmly and comforting, her cherry-blossom pink eyes kind. The boy began to calm down, but his eyes still darted from vampire to vampire. "How do we free him?" Lily asked, examining the thick chains holding up the boy's arms. Vincent nodded, "It's easy enough to take care of." He said standing. Jazmine instantly knew what Vincent was going to do, before he even pulled out his two, double barrel, magnum pistols. "It's okay, brace yourself, nothing is going to hurt, I promise." Jazmine said quickly before Vincent rapidly shot at the top of the chains, gunshots filling the room, and shaking the building. The boy turned his head the best he could; looking diagonally down to his right. Jazmine comfortingly stroked the boys head. When the chains finally fell to the ground after about 10 shots, Vincent quit, and put his pistols back into his blood red trench.
