• CHAPTER ONE

Amber was a quiet girl. Didn’t talk to people, didn’t have any friends, and was an outsider. She likes nature. Not people. She hates people, mainly for messing up the economy. Yet she did like one person. This person was Austen, the hottest boy in high school. All the girls loved him. His looks, charm, and how intelligent he is. But Amber saw more. He was a nature person, like her. And that’s how it started.
It was the first day of high school and for Amber, the first day of her life. Amber looked down at her list that she had gotten from the office of all her classes.
“Let’s see, first class biology with Mr. Kendora, first floor, room 23.” Amber turned around. The door was right behind her. “That was simple.” She told herself and walked in. There right in front of her was Austen. She froze up and stood there until the loud bell rang next to her.
Then a man walked into the room and introduced himself. “I am Mr. Kendora, your biology teacher. As you can see we have tables with two seats by them. I want a boy and a girl to be partners. No goofing off or you will be sent to the office.”
Amber saw all the girls run up to Austen, all asking him at the same time. She just sat by herself hoping there were an odd number of students so she would be alone. Amber set down her book bag and put her head on her desk. She felt dizzy.
Then someone tapped on her shoulder. She huffed and put her head up. It was Austen.
“Hey, are you alright?” She felt her heart beating, her blood running faster.
“Yeah, I was just a little dizzy.” She said, grabbing her notebook out of her bag to doodle on.
Austen sat down next to her. “Do you mind if I sit here? The other girls are mauling me over there.” She turned around to see a bunch of girls with their mouths dropped open.
“Uh, sure I guess.” She opened her notebook to the first page. There was a drawing of a fairy with a lavender dress and blue eyes.
Austen looked over, “Wow, you’re really good. How do you draw like that?”
Amber looked up from her note book, “I just practice a lot. I also take drawing classes with my cousins.” Amber just noticed something; she was talking to Austen Collins.
Then Mr. Kendora began class. The day passed by in a blur. Before she knew it, it was lunch. Her and Austen talked a lot and were in the same math class too. They sat by each other during lunch and talked.
“So, your cousin got you into drawing?”
    “Yes.”
“And your dad got you into playing the piano.
“Yep, enough about me though. I want to hear about your life.” Amber suggested. Austen took a bite of his sandwich and looked at Amber.
“Well, I don’t really do much, except for play football.”
Amber giggled, “I know you play football. I’ve seen you practice before.”
But then she broke up their conversation. It was Miranda, the most stuck up popular girl at their middle school. She was also the leader of the cheer team. Of course she was being followed by her minions, Ashley, Yuki, and Rachel.
“Hey, Austen, how about we hang out after school. Maybe catch a movie.” Miranda sat down next to Austen and put her arm around him.
“Well, I already have plans. I’m taking drawing lessons with Amber.” Austen replied. Miranda just looked at him and glared at Amber.
“You’re getting lessons from this girl? This girl is a geek and nerd. Why her and not me. I bet I can draw better than her scribbles.”
Amber stood up and looked Miranda strait in the eye, “How much do you want to bet I can draw better than you?”
    “Twenty bucks.”
    “Twenty-five.”
“Twenty-five it is. Better start saving up loser.” Miranda stormed away, her minions following her. Austen started laughing.
“What’s so funny, do you want to bet on something too?” Amber looked at him and smiled.
“No, it’s just hilarious! The way she stormed off like that. She is so going to lose.” Amber was amazed, Austen sided with her.
“So, you think I’ll win?” She asked.
“Totally, you’re amazing at art,” just at that moment the bell rang.
“Well off to the gym for PE, see you later.” Amber threw her lunch away and headed to the gym. She hated gym; gym was the worst part of school. But still, she heard there were some cute guys in her gym class. So she went.
“Hey, maybe we can walk home after school.” He yelled after her.
    “Sure, I’ll think about it.”

When the final bell rang, Amber headed back to her locker to gather her things. Someone shoved her and she fell. She spun around to see the devil.
“Watch where you going, Amber. You’re going to hurt someone one of these days.”
Amber stood up and made a fist, “How ‘bout you watch were you’re going, Miss, ‘oh I hate you for stealing Austen’. I’m not dating him, okay?” Amber grabbed her things and slammed her locker, walking down the hall.
She walked down the street towards home the only place she felt like she belonged. Even after her mother’s death, home was still perfect.
She looked both ways to cross the street, and trudged on home.
    “Amber, look out!”
She heard Austen’s voice along with the squealing of tires. She spun around. A car came straight towards her. And that was it.
