• -Chapter 1-

Melody anxiously paced around the hallways of her house, waiting for her parents’ arrival, wondering where they could be. There was to be a gathering tonight with all the villagers to celebrate the success of her parents’ latest mission – but the people who this party was for were not even here yet!
So much for tidying up the house, Melody thought. She went back to her room to wait for the guests to arrive in a couple hours; if they came. Melody lied down on her bed, slightly messing up her light brown hair which she made sure to brush so neatly before her parents did not show up… What was with them? They never came late before after a mission! Her lilac colored eyes stared sternly out of the window, becoming impatient for her parents’ return. Well, I suppose I shouldn’t get mad, Melody thought, they must have a good reason for being late. Melody sighed, thinking, yeah, they might have had a little trouble along the way or something, that’s it!
A loud thumping noise came from her parents’ bedroom. Melody sprang from her bed and sneaked through the hallway beside her parents’ doorway and peeked her head around the side. What seemed like a miniature dragon was ricocheting from wall to wall, knocking down pictures, scrolls, anything resting on a shelf. What is going on here? Melody thought. She went to her room and grabbed her staff - a long piece of wood with a purple handle that was given to her for her sixteenth birthday – and went back to confront the creature. The second the dragon saw her, it burst into puff of smoke and flame, leaving a scroll to drift to the surface of the bed. With caution, Melody walked around to the side of the bed that the parchment landed on, looking at the scroll the whole time just in case another creature came from it. When nothing happened, Melody picked up the scroll and opened it. Inside was a very disturbing message.

“Well, I see you successfully received my message. From this point you should know that I have your parents prisoner. You know, I was hoping that your mum and dad would bring you and save me the trouble of finding you. I suppose you should be happy to know your parents are still alive. After all, I want to kill all three of you at once. Yes, you know my motives now. I can’t really find a way on how you will stop me though from killing someone… I have some of my assistants coming for you in a bit so would you be a dear and just let them take you? Torturing your parents isn’t as fun after a while. Ta-ta

    ~Torkov”

Underneath Torkov’s name were two small prints that looked like drops of blood. One had the initial “M” over it and the other had a “D”. Melody started to cry, knowing what this meant for her parents. As her tears fell onto the page, the writing and the blood drops started to fade, the scroll itself beginning to disintegrate in her hands. Melody scrabbled after the disappearing paper, the only thing connecting her to her parents and the person holding them hostage. She let out a sob as the last remnant seemed to evaporate away.
He wants me, does he? Melody thought. They’re going to have a challenge. I’ll find a way to save my parents and myself from that monster, he’ll see. Going into her room, Melody quickly grabbed her staff and spell book and proceeded to sprint out her front door, slamming into what seemed like a solid brick wall.
