Chapter One
Escape
I hate this city because of its government. I don't believe in its teachings and I'm a wanted fugitive for helping a creature of God. Because of this, I'm leaving the Alpha Empire and going straight to the Omega Country. At least there I can make a living as a full-fledged alchemist. My name is Robert, Robert Launcher. Me and my brother, Lucas, chose this night to leave this evil place, and it ends up raining. I'm waiting at the gate for him and he's late. The rain drenches my coat and I'm practically soaked from head to toe. Finally, I see a figure approaching me from the corner. Oh no, not Chief Isaac. The bloated man has a white mustache and he’s balding on the top of his head. But, he’s no pushover. That man hated my guts since I left the Police Academy. He saw promise in my abilities as an alchemist and tried to exploit my talent so he could get a higher rank from Governor Riley. But I immediately left it when I found out what they did to all the criminals. They do the most inhuman thing to them, they use an alchemy that binds their bodies to animals after they are executed and control them as slaves with a jewel imbedded in their forehead that can't be removed. I left, refusing in turning humans into Silvestre. And Chief Isaac thought if I don't join the Police Squad, I wasn't going to join any other and got really thrilled when I tried to make a prison break for the criminals. Only two people escaped that night. Fifty were recaptured and twelve were shot dead right on the spot. I have to hide from this crackpot but he spotted me the same time I spotted him. "Hey you! Have you seen a seventeen year old that's 179 centimeters tall with spiky hair? He has two robotic arms that replaces his original arms." Good he hasn't recognized me yet, maybe I can play it safe and deceive him. "No, I haven't seen anyone of that description, sir." I said in a low, gruff voice, disguising my voice. "Hold on, why are you even at the gate in the first place. Who the hell are you!?" Dammit, what am I going to say. I could make a run for it, but that would leave my brother behind. What can I do? "We heard of rumors of someone trying to escape and came to look out for the criminals if they would even come by here." said a new voice. I recognized it instantly. Too bad, the Chief doesn't know anything about my little brother. He comes walking up to me and stands at my side in my defense. About time you got here. I thought. My "little brother" is a year younger than me but is four inches taller than I am and is twice as heavy as me. I look small compared to his hulking size. "Well, it's too dangerous for civilians to be caught up in this affair. Leave this to the police next time." says Chief Isaac. "Understood, sir," I replied, “we were just doing our civic duty. Sorry to cause you concern, sir." He takes the alibi and walks away. Too easy I think. When he turns toward the other corner, we bolt through the gate. Our first steps toward a new life. I felt excitement as we ran down the paved road. Eventually, I had to slow down and stop so my brother could catch his breath. We seek shelter from the rain under a huge oak tree. "Did you get what we need?" I ask him in my normal voice. Lucas showed me the huge tan traveling backpack and I examined the contents. "It's all there, Rob." he replies. "Good, everything we need for the trip. Have you caught your breath yet? I want to get as much distance from that place as we can." "Give me a break, we haven't even stopped for twenty seconds, and you're already ready to go?" In my excitement, I forgot my brother's needs. "You know as well as I do that I can't travel as far as you can in the same amount of time." "Well, if you didn't gain all that weight after that incident, we could be long gone from here!" I yelled. Lucas started looking depressed. It wasn't the weight thing, it was the "incident". Our teacher who taught us advanced alchemy was killed after we attempted a forbidden alchemy. She mainly asked for my help because I control alchemy more effectively than my brother. We performed the Resucitar perfectly, but a monster called a Sombra Humano was born instead of the intended person. It killed our mentor and fled without even hurting us. Even I never talk about it, but I didn't mean to yell at him. I'm too excited to control myself. I feel like a caged bird that just flew out the open caged door and is experiencing free flying for the first time in years. "You know I didn't mean it," I apologized to him, "it's just that I'm overexcited that we got out of that city without difficulties. I just want to get away from this place. Now come on, lets go you rested long enough." He looks at me in an understanding way and gets up. But as he gets up, he grabs a bag of chips from the backpack and starts munching away at them. Sigh, oh great, comfort food. I ignore this and our spirits are lifted when the rain has cleared up and dawn creeps over the horizon. So this is what it feels like. I think as we walk down the same paved road.
