• It was a moonlight night and the Angel had been flying back to where the others were waiting. Now, he was running through the thick woods. Scraps and bruises marred his once flawless skin. His ivory white wings were missing clumps of feathers where his attacker had grabbed, but lost their hold. The Angel saw a house. A fair sized log cabin from the looks of it. He hoped that someone was home to help him out of the nightmare that was trailing him. He didn’t sense that his attacker had caught up with him. He sure felt it though as he cried out in pain as one wing was halfway cut off. His cries of pain had shocked one of the children wide awake.

The child was only seven. She looked out the small dirty window and saw nothing but the falling snow. She got her thin ratty coat and left her room. The room was small with a broken dresser along one wall, the old vanity across from it, her cot under the window and a lamp in one corner. Her door was balanced on its hinges and creaked opened as she left. She passed by her mother passed out on the couch. She knew at that point that her father was out with a mistress or girlfriend. She grabbed her tattered hat and raced out as she heard two more cries. She stood outside where the snow was falling like white rose petals. She turned sharply hearing the final cry.

She watched in delayed horror as the Angel in all its brilliant glory was run through by a black blade. She locked eyes with the Angel’s killer. All she remembers about him is his endless blue-black eyes. The child blinked and he was gone. She ran over to the dying Angel. He gasped for air as the child managed to somehow pull the black spear out.
She stumbled back and let the cursed spear fall into the pure snow. Then picking herself up she walked to one wing and lifted it up out of the snow. She dragged it back to the Angel’s body. Setting it on the correct side she repeated her steps for the other wing. She kneeled next to the Angel and thought.

“Oh!” the child’s pure and soft voice seemingly cut through the air like a knife. She clasped her hands together and started to pray.

“Um…excuse me, anyone up there. But, I think your missing and angel. Um…I think he’s really hurt and needs his Mommy to make it all better.” She said shutting her eyes tight. Feeling a warm gush of wind she opened her eyes and saw the wings were still there. She scooped them up and held them high.

“You forgot these…” she said. Another gust of warm wind caused her to close her eyes. She felt warmth spread over her small forearms. Opening her eyes she saw a gold outline of an angel wing fade from gold to silver then to black on either arm. She sat and then fell back onto the snow. She felt a great pain and blacked-out.
