• Her hair was a mess, tangled and sticking up everywhere. But she never had time to brush it. Nathan wanted breakfast in bed, and he wanted it now. There was no way she would say no to him. Not if she wanted to keep her other eye its original color.

Rain's blond hair reminded most of the sun, but Nathan said it looked like ear-wax and snot, that he wanted her to chop it off and never grow it long. "It's gross, why do you bother trying to keep it pretty? It'll never happen." He would say. But Rain would try her best to keep from breaking down. It's what he wanted, and she wasn't going to give him that.

Her eyes where the color of rain, which is the reason he mother named her Rainalyn. She was a tiny fragile girl. She loved being outdoors and playing with the neighborhood kids. And they loved her. Being only Nineteen gives a girl right to. She used to babysit all the time for her neighbors, but Nathan put a stop to that. He told her, "These kids are not our kids. So they are not your responsibility." Rain tried to say she did it for money also, but Nathans hand collided with the side of her face and stopped her before she could.

Today, Rain looked warn down. Her eyes were a dull blue, her hair dirty and knotted. Bruises covered her body and her clothes were blood-stained. But despite how she looked and felt, Rain put a smile on her face to make Nathan happy with her.

She cooked him eggs, sausage, and toast. It was all he ever asked for, so it's what she would make. Picking up the tray, she carried the food and a cup of coffee up to him. Her smile growing a little bigger each step she took up the stairs.

"Where the hell is my breakfast Rainalyn? Lets go!" He yelled, just as she reached the door to their bedroom. She rushed to his side of the bed and placed the tray on his lap. "Now go get cleaned up or something, you look like ******** death." She nodded and hurried to the upstairs bathroom, grabbing a soft pink sundress on her way.

Rain turned the water on in the shower and removed her clothes, putting them in one of the two baskets. Nathan hated when her clothes were all over his, he didn't want to smell like her, he said she smelt like death and diarrhea. And that might be because he never let her shower. But she was lucky, today she'd get to change clothes and shower for the first time in maybe a month.

Stepping under the hot running water, Rain let out a soft sigh. Then she stopped, whispering to herself, "I have until he finishes breakfast to shower. So I must hurry." She took the bar of soap and washed her body quickly, trying to make sure every cut was clean, and all the blood was gone. Next she poured some shampoo in her hand and lathered her hair with it. In mid-rinse, Nathan came in the room, opened the curtain and grabbed her wrist.

"How long does it take to clean up? You should have been done by now, get the ******** out." He pulled her out of the shower, forcing her to crash into the wall, hard. "I tell you to clean up and you use hot water to do it. I don't have the money to keep spending on cleaning your worthless body. Now get dressed and cover those damn bruises with makeup or something. I need you to go to the store and get me some beer." He walked out of the room before she could protest.

Nathan was twenty-three now, he could buy alcohol anytime he pleased. With the drinking age at twenty-one, Rain couldn't. Fear ran through her veins as she thought of what might happen if she returned empty handed.

Carefully making sure she covered every bruise with her cheap makeup, Rain let a tear slip. Her body made her want to puke. Each bruise was a memory of how much Nathan hated her. She loved him and hated that he didn't feel the same. She begged God every night as she laid next to him, to help her. But he never answered.

"Hurry up or I will add another shiner to your collection." Nathan laughed at his disgusting joke. But Rain new better then to not obey. She rushed with her makeup and ran out the door with her purse and some money.

She was starving, but if she ate Nathan would smell it and force her to regurgitate it. This was the reason she was so skinny, it was a sickening look. People looked at her funny as she walked to the store. When she go there, she grabbed a thing of beer and walked to the counter. A young boy, about her age stood behind it.

"I will need your I...Rainalyn?" The boy asked, looking at her. "What happened to you, you use to look...healthier?"

"Oh..." Her voice broke and she cleared her throat to try again. "Nothing. I've just been down. Married now. Just here to buy him some beer." She said, a soft smiled formed as she realized this boy was one of her best friends back in high school. It seemed like forever ago, through it was only two years.

"Well, I can't let you do that. You are underage. How old is he?"

"Twenty-Three. But he couldn't come to the store, and you know me...I don't drink. Please help me out?" Her eyes pleaded with him.

    "I could get fired Rain. I can't."

"I'll show you my license and it will look like you looked at my I.D and let me buy it. Please, you don't know how my husband is when he doesn't get what he wants."

"I can't. He couldn't get that mad, he can come down and get it himself."

Rain put her arm on the counter and rubbed the makeup off, exposing one of the dark purple bruises. "He will do it again..." Her eyes met her friends as he bit his lip.

"Rain, don't lie to me now. Tell me he doesn't hurt you."

"When have I ever lied to you? I can't shower more then two minutes a month, I barely eat. I love him...but he doesn't love me." She looked away from her friend. Her eyes moving toward the clock on the wall. "Oh no. I have to go, if I don't hurry, he will hunt me down and hurt me again. Please, help me out. Let me get the beer."

"Let me help you by calling the police on him."

"No!" Rain yelled, her eyes filling with tears. "He will kill me if you do."

"Rain, you can't let him...." Before he could finish, Rain grabbed the beer and ran. She ran as fast as her feet could take her.

It was a few minutes before she got back to her house, she hoped the police wouldn't come knocking at her door, she hoped that she could get away with it and not let Nathan know what happened there.

"Took you long enough, you worthless b***h." He grabbed a beer and looked at her. Rain's body shook as she looked at her husband. "What the ******** is your problem?" He asked. Rain didn't answer, which made him mad. He raised the bottle above his head and brought it down on hers. "What did you do?" He screamed at her as she fell to the floor. "You didn't speak to anyone did you."

"No. I had to steal the beer, the guy wouldn't let me buy it." She said, her face absent of all emotion, her body numb. She barely felt the pain anymore.

"You b***h." He said, walking into the kitchen leaving her on the living room floor, bleeding.

Rain sat up and brought her hand to her head. There was a large piece of glass sitting in the cut from the beer bottle. She tugged it out and put pressure on the wound, trying to stop the bleeding. But Nathan walked back into the room, a knife in hand.

"You stealing b***h." He yelled, grabbing her hand and dragging her to the coffee table. He placed her hand on the table and slowly cut one of her fingers off. Pain ran through Rain's body as she suppressed a scream. "That's for one of the 6 pack." He slowly did the same to five other fingers. "That will teach you to steal." He said, leaving her to bleed on the table alone.

She looked at her fingers and cried. She wrapped both hands in her dress. "Get in here." Nathan commanded. Rain stood and walked into the kitchen, a frying pan collided with her her stomach. "What the hell is this?" He held up a positive pregnancy test.

"I...I was going to tell you." She said, her stomach killed her. She sat on the floor and took short breathes.

"Yeah? Is that so? I don't want a child with you!" He screamed, bringing the pan down on her head, as he did with the beer bottle. Rain fell back in the ground, her head bleeding again. She grew dizzy and weak. She tried to get up, but it was like the world was against her.

Nathan walked to the sink and pulled out the knife he used earlier on her fingers. Rain was unsure what he was going to to with it this time, but she feared it would kill the baby.

Walking over to her limp body, Nathan brought the knife down, plunging the knife into her stomach. She let out a cry as he drew the knife back and brought it back down again.

Her cries angered him even more, so he repeatedly stabbed her over and over. Soon Rain lost consciousness and passed out. Causing Nathans anger to boil over. This time when he brought the knife down, it went deep into her heart. Rain took a few more ragged breathes and finally stopped altogether. Her horror was now over as Nathan pulled the knife out of her heart and ran.

He ran and ran till he couldn't no more. But as he reached the store Rain stole from, the cops caught sight of him, his blood covered hands and clothes. Not long after, finding Rain's body, lifeless and bloody, laying in the door way of her kitchen and living room.

That was the end of Rain and Nathans abuse. He was sentenced to life in prison, only to die a few weeks later. Just as Rain did with a knife to the heart.
