tab Connor grinned wickedly and jumped out of the bed before I could hit him.
tab I could feel my insides shriveling up, and my head pound in tandem with my heart. Marco is gone. Really gone. I wanted to cry. I wanted to curl up into a ball and cry for him, cry for his absence, cry for his death. Because that's what had happened, right? He had died?
tab Because Connor killed him.
tab I threw the sheets aside and jumped to my feet, the skin of my hands trembling with rage. I could feel the magic pulsing through my bones like the beat of a drum.
tab Bam.
tab I saw Marco's face in my head; dark skin. Big brown eyes. A smile so white it hurt to look at.
tab Bam.
tab I could still feel him. Feel his body curled around mine. Feel his strong arms wrapped around my stomach.
tab Bam.
tab And Connor thought he could come and take him from me? Use him to get to me?
tab Bam.. Bam... Bam..
tab The magic hurt. It ran from the ground into my feet, trailed up my legs, coursed through my arms, pooled in a silvery puddle within my hands.
tab Connor's eyes widened. "Delayna! I didn't kill him! Not yet, anyways.."
tab BAM!
tab Icy fire shot out of my arms, and I pointed it at Connor, whispered the magic his name. Willed it to go to him and knock him on his a**. I poured all my anger and pain and desperation into that spell, wanting to get the acidic taste out of my heart.
tab The power hit him, and Connor flew into the wall. I heard his head crack as he made contact, and a dark part of me relished the sound.
tab I dropped my arms, and the silver light dissipated, leaving the room in darkness. I stalked towards Connor's body and fisted my hand in his hair, dragging him to his feet.
tab "Where is Marco?" I asked, my arms shaking with anger.
tab I could see his skeevy smile in the dim light of the bedroom window.
tab "Just follow the trail, Darling."
tab Then Connor disappeared, the hair in my fist turning to air, his evil face stamped into the back of my eyes. The lights flashed on, and I knew what he had meant by Follow The Trail.
tab Marco's blood was staining the carpet.
