• The tale of the fourth king:Rain

    Chapter 2: Alone no more

The next morning Rain was up early, he got ready to leave the little inn. “Don’t go.” A little voice said as he made his way to the door. Rain turned and found the little girl he had saved the day before looking up at him. He knelt down so that he was eye height with the little child and placed his hand on her shoulder “I’m sorry.” He said “But it’s too dangerous for me to stay in one place for very long.” The little girl grabbed his sleeve and held on tight “No” she whimpered. Rain placed his hand on her head, “I’m sorry.” He repeated. “It seems as though she has taken a like to you.” Said a voice from behind the two.
Rain turned around and found the woman from the day before standing behind him and the little girl, “So it would seem.” He said standing up. “If you leave, she’ll be very sad.” The woman told Rain. He looked out the window then back down at the little girl who was still tightly holding his arm. “Well I guess I could stay a little longer.” He said “The sun’s to bright right now and walking in direct sunlight isn't good for me. “Play” the little girl said happily as she tugged on Rain’s arm “Play!” He smiled and looked down at her with his soft amber eyes. “What do you want to play?” he asked her. The little girl then proceeded to lead Rain by the arm out to the garden.
Lucky for Rain it was shady here and a nice breeze was blowing. “What do you want to do out here?” he asked her. The little girl smiled and lead him to a large Oak tree “sit” she said as she pulled him underneath the large tree. Rain sat down and watched the little girl, she began to pick flowers and once she had enough she sat down and began to weave them together in a circular shape. While he watched the woman from the inn came and sat down next to Rain. “She really is something.” The woman said as she sat down. “Her family was the silver blades.” The woman told Rain “Her name’s Maria.” Rain looked over at the little girl as she continued to weave the flowers.
“Silver blades” Rain said in a clam tone “They were vampire hunters weren't they?” he asked. The woman nodded “Yes Very good ones in fact, we believe a rouge vampire may be the cause of the fire that took her parents’ lives.” She told Rain. It had been about ten minutes since the little girl had begun to weave the flowers together. She then approached Rain with what seemed like a flower crown and placed it on his head “There pretty.” She said with a smile. The woman from the Inn let out a chuckle and Rain smiled “Why thank you.” He said “It’s very lovely.” A light breeze blew rustling Rain’s long silver hair and pushing Maria’s mid-length blonde hair into her golden-brown eyes. Rain reached down and brushed the hair from Maria’s eyes.
“I like the flower crown.” He said to the little girl “But I think it would look better on you.” He says placing it on Maria’s head. The little girl giggled as Rain placed the flower crown on her head, she then ran off to pick more flowers. “If she is the daughter of a vampire hunter, then she’s a target for the rouges.” Rain thought to himself “I have no choice; If I leave she will have to come with me. It’s the only way to keep her safe.” Sometime had passed and it was about noon, Rain stood up and looked down the path leading away from the inn, it was shaded over now by some large trees. Now would be a good time to leave Rain would not have to deal with the sun directly thanks to the trees.
“Are you leaving now?” the woman asked. Rain nodded “Yes.” He said “But I have decided to take Maria with me.” He told the woman “She will be safer that way.” The woman looked down at the ground then back up to Rain “I know your right Mr. Von Leor.” She said “But I’d still be worried.” At the front door of the inn the woman, Maria, and Rain said their goodbyes. As they left Rain turned back to the woman and said “We’ll come back and visit soon.” As Rain and little Maria walked, he looked down at Maria who was smiling back at him. “No matter what it takes, I will keep you safe.” Rain said to her “No one deserves to die by the hands of a rouge.”
