The Queen's Lambent, a phrase all to familiar to almost the entire population who ever lived on that particular day. Some saw it as haunting, to the people of Britain and all it's colonies; a show of gratitude and respect beyond their understanding. As for others, a sign of real change and that one day, just one day, humanity would be much better than it was years ago. I may be just a young and naïve lil pup, but the Shrink doesn't see me as that, neither do others who wouldn't even be able to put themselves into working in the same field as he does. Well not when it comes to making hard decisions, or sacrifices.
On the day the Queen died, almost immediately, the war just stopped in it's tracks, every factions stopped the violence between one another, every engineers, mechanics, even janitors stopped what they were working on. Every employee, every volunteer, contractor, assets, even investors. Every soul who's a part of the factions or even acquaintance with respectfully moved out of the way to let the lambent take on it's course. There were those who'd take advantage of the members, but, soon found out that they were wrong and were put on lockdown for local law enforcement to arrest them. Even terrorist tried their luck in snatching hardware only to experience the same fate, except they were brought to a faction prison, which is far worse than a max prison.
For all I can tell, the Queen's Lambent was a promise that the Shrink made to her, when he and the other faction leaders were invited for a summons, or you could say a formal party for her great granddaughter. Even though the leaders were at each other's necks in the war, the Queen was the only one who was brave enough to tell them that she wouldn't take no for an answer, like school boys being scolded for behaving badly. Despite what others thought that none of the leaders would show, they all came and put aside their differences, for the Queen. During the party, Her Majesty had a little talk with all the leaders at her table, not for politics or for business purposes, but, she just wanted to have a friendly chat with all leaders at the table. They may not have looked comfortable or happy sitting with their opposition, but over time, they engaged in normal conversations as if they were friends and even laughing with the Queen herself for some of her humor and in house jokes whenever one of the leaders began complaining. She asked if they can make a promise, they kept it even though they went back to the same people they were after the party.
For the promise they kept, she asked that on the day she dies, the leaders would help stop the war no matter what importance it had, no matter an operation coming close to success, no matter the breakthrough of a mission, everything relating to war, crime, etc. Every bad deeds that a human can come up with, ceased. That's what she wanted them to promise they'll do, though they only promised for the war and violence, which is the first part she'll gladly accept even though she asked for more.
When the Queen died and word got out, everyone within the faction stopped, within moments, they faced towards London, some exchanging a few understanding nods even to their enemies, some even gathered around with the very same people they're fighting against, they looked back towards London once again before kneeling down on one knee, with their weapons facing down and a hand or two resting on the butt of their rifles. After that, a moment of silence for the Queen. The only matriarch the world has ever known and will ever know before another may take her place. The Queen's Lambent, a promise for Her Majesty that the last thing to be caught on the news is a battle that's ongoing. A promise that for what she asked for, was kept not only because of selfish reasons, but because she doesn't want humanity to continue fighting itself.
All she asked is that on her passing, the violence stops and that during her funeral, everyone who's ever fought with someone would come to understand their differences and accept the people they fight against. Those outside the faction wouldn't understand, but those within, only their lambent is seen for those who'd rather be violent because of selfish reasons.
I'm glad to have grown up in this age after the Queen's death, because the only wars we're fighting against, is hunger and sickness.
