• The Greeks believed in many gods. They had three main gods, Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades. According to Greek mythology, each was assigned a different part of Greece to protect and rule. Zeus was put in the sky, where he was able to control all. Poseidon was assigned to the sea, to guard the sea creatures and all of the oceans. And finally, Hades took the Underworld, where he would have to control the dead and choose their fate. But one day a man from another city told them of Jesus Christ, the Greeks came to believe, and soon, all of Greece had forgotten of their gods and moved on to Christianity.

The shipping industry is a symbol of ancient Greek economic times. Some of you may know that shipping is one of Greece’s most important industries. Around the 1960s, the size of their shipping fleet practically doubled in size, mostly because the investment was undertaken by the shipping magnates Onassis and Niarchos. Today, the Greek marine time fleet is the largest in the world; it has around 3,079 vessels that are at least 18% of the whole world’s fleet capacity!
