• I remember last night, wanting to know how it felt to be behind the wheel of a

car. Me,being a girl of only 15, almost ready for the one thing that is going to

make me free....the only obstacle in my way is learning the basics.

And so here I stand today- still the same girl of 15,sitting in a car, going to an

empty parking lot for the first ever ride I am about to take behind the wheel.

I got to the empty parking lot-my mom was driving at the time. She let me

behind the wheel.I adjusted the seat, and the wheel. Then I turned the car on.I

could almost swear my heart was beating through my chest. Then,I grabbed

the handle, and pulled it into reverse. Letting off of the brake, I backed up,and

turned. Now I was facing foreward into the narrow stretch of road before

me.Barely touching the gas pedal,I was off. I made a few loops-then mom told

me to go faster. I tapped the gass, but the horsepower got to me,and I

slammed the break.Realising what I had just done,my heart still pounding,I

looked to my mother. She was laughing at me-and so was my little sister ((who

had tagged along for the ride)).They were laughing at my inexperience. But,as

some relief washed over me,I hit the break, and began laughing as well.Once

again,I ran over my paces.By the end of it,I had gotten the hang of it.I had

gone at a max speed of 10 miles per hour.We were there for a half an hour.

Then me and my mom switched places, and returned home.I was exhilarated.

For those of you who are wondering, yes, driving is a scary thing. But,by

laughing at your mistakes, and realising that it is pretty easy to do, driving for

the first time is fun. So,if any of you here read this, and are going to take that

first test run behind the wheel, don't be afraid. It's fun.
