Can sins be forgiven?
A question that rings in my head over and over.
I don’t know why “destiny” chose me or how this whole mess started.
It just did.
My name is Kei and I’m seventeen.
This is my story.
Chapter 1
The year is 2016. I don’t know the exact date since I haven’t looked at the latest newspaper yet. I live alone and keep to myself. Been like that for over twelve years of my life. My parents died when I was little and I have no other family, so you can basically guess I became a juvenile delinquent. But hey, it’s not my fault. No one was there to teach me right from wrong. Well, almost no one. Most of the world wouldn’t care for some poor, street kid orphan. All except Marty. He runs a stand near my place.
He took care of me and looked after me for a long time. Anyway, all I really need is music, food, some clothes, my skateboard, and a place to stay. I have all those already. I stared out the window of my abandoned apartment complex home, looking out over the city. Tokyo has really changed a bit in some ways. But some things will never change. I thought, looking down at some unfortunate guy getting mugged.
I closed the curtain turning away and ran my fingers through my thick, shaggy black hair while grabbing a milk carton and put it to my pierced lips, taking a sip. Almost immediately I spitted it out, coughing and gagging. Spoiled. I got my skateboard and slipped my shoulder bag on, heading out. I needed something that wasn’t spoiled and that could wash out the taste of corn-milk in my mouth.
Riding down the sidewalk with my hands in my pockets of my slightly skinny, black torn jeans with my eyes closed and headphones on, things were going smoothly. I knew my way around well enough not to run into anything, but today seemed different. The music playing turned into static hisses so I stopped and slipped off my headphones, pulling out my iPod.
Something or someone whispered in my ear while I was fiddling with it, sending shivers down my spine. It’s breathe was icy-cold, making the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.
“I found you.”
I looked over my shoulder, then looked around. I was alone. I faced forward and my world turned into a living hell. Well… I was the only thing living from what I could see. I couldn’t close my eyes. They were taking in the gruesome sight. The buildings had crumbled and burned down. The ground covered with ashes.
