• She looked up at the moon, waiting for him. Over the week that he came to her town, everything changed. She constantly put him at risk of finding out her secrets. At first he hadn't seemed interested, but then she caught his glances. It amused her that he would try to avoid her when he lets his curiosity run his spare time. Well, tonight would end his curiosity.
When he had tried to guess what she was, he demanded answers. She would give them to him, but only if he shows. Without telling him directly, she would get him to understand. She was dangerous to be with, her whole family was. They didn't hurt people, or didn't mean to if they did. There are times, like when he is close to her, that temptation is hard to get away from. But she has been able to control herself this long, maybe she can until he dies an old man. All she knows is that he is her number one priority, her one love that she has been searching 208 years for.
A slight breeze gave his positioin away. With a sigh she turned to welcome him. The moonlight shimmered off his face, his eyes-an everlasting blue-watched her every move. He was in his school uniform still, and his sandy-brown hair was wind blown from the walk here. He walked slowly over to her, looking over the bridge and at the water below. His voice was soft, quiet, as he said, "So what did you want to tell me?"
She took a deep breath. "I wanted to answer your questions in private so you could get answers and it would stay private. Of course, if you have other plans for the information, you won't live to see another day." Her eyebrow lifted in suspission.
He shook his head, "Of course not! I mean... I'm not going to tell anyone! Just...just answer some questions for me. That's all I want."
She nodded, "Okay then. What do you want to know?" She felt his mind buzzing as he tried to choose a question. He had desided on one when she heard it clear in his mind, Why did her eyes change everyday? She accedentally answered before he asked outloud. "My eyes change depending on my hunger, or thirst if you rather. It shouldn't be hard to notice them change, but most don't. They're too worried about us being different."
His jaw fell open, "How did you do that?" He asked, just as she said, "I can read minds."
He closed his mouth and only asked with his mind, So I don't have to speak for you to hear me?
She shook her head. "I can hear anyone that is within 3 miles. It's like a little buzzing in the back of my mind, or a room full of talking people. You just hear a buzz until you focus on one conversation. That's what I do with someone's mind."
Do you, like, have any other "powers"? he asked.
"No, but my brother does. He sees the future. My mother is the best sergion in this town, and my dad has the biggest heart anyone has ever seen. My sister loves to mess around with everyone, and my other brother is more of the silent...never pleased kind."
He nodded, But are any of you deadly?
She couldn't help but laugh, "We all are, but we do our best not to hurt any of you humans. It's usually easy, but with you here...it's been harder for me to keep my grip. I'm getting better at it, and I can stand being near you more than I could when you first moved here."
So I'm making it hard for you? How can I help? He thought in a rush.
Her head was shaking, "You made it harder at first, but I can stand it now. The best way you could help was to leave...but neather of us want that to happen. So I guess I'll just have to get used to your scent and it'll be easyer to be around you."
A smile slowly grew on his face, Does that mean you like me?
"It's not that simple! I need you to understand that it is not only your company that I want! If you start to hang around me...I could lose it at any moment we're together. The thing is, we shouldn't be talking about this...I'm breaking all the rules by doing this but you need to understand...understand why we can't be together." She looked him in the eyes, trying to make him believe her.
He shook his head, "I don't care! I don't want to live without you...can't you just exept that I like you, and that you like me?"
"You should care. I should care that you don't care, but I don't...I like that you don't care. That's a bad thing but I'll addmit it. I...I can't live without you." She takes a step closer, leaning down closer. She applies the slightest presure of her lips on his and her mind crumbles. Her throut burst into flames at his closeness...but she didn't seem to mind. Her mind was lost somewhere with the feel of his lips on her's. Sadly, it was starting to get to be to much for her to bair, and she pushed him away. She let her fourhead lightly touch his as she stared into his eyes. She took several deep breaths, trying to calm her throut, and held him a few inches away.
His eyes were the only thing that kept her from taking him right then and there. She had met him at a place that would make it easy to make him disapear...but when she kissed him...she could have sworn she felt her heart skip a beat. Is that even possible?? She listened to his heart flutter, and his breath that was starting to calm down, and started calming herself down with it. She let go of his shoulder and took a step back,"I'm sorry." She wispered it so quietly he had to strain to hear it.
"What could you be sorry for? What for being a vampire? I don't care, that's who you are and you don't need to be sorry for it!" He took a step closer, brushing his hand on her arm. I don't care what you are...I'll always love you, He started with his thoughts, "And there's nothing you can do about it!" He finished, looking into her gold eyes without a hint of uneasyness.
"There are a lot of things I could do, but I'm not going to because I'll never get over it myself, which means you never would either. I'll see you tomorrow then." She started to walk away when he grabbed her arm.
"Wait! Can you tell me your name? It's weard not knowing." He didn't flinch at the coldness of her skin.
"I'm Hayley." She said through tight lips, trying not to snap at his arm...or neck.
"Hayley, nice...cute even! I'm Cam." He smiled at her, knowing that, no matter how thirsty Hayley got, she wasn't going to hurt him.
A smile played on her face, "I know who you are. I've known who you were when we got the news that you would be coming to our town." She lightly pulled her arm out of his grip and started walking away again. "I'll see you tomorrow, I'll make sure of it."
Cam watched Hayley walk away, sure she would keep her promice. Out of his pocket he pulled out a paper. On it was a perfect sketch of her beautiful face. He had done it on the first day. Cam had taken one look at her and drew it when he got home. Her eyes were a storm gray, the stage just befor they turned pitch black and her features were as good as anyone could draw perfection. He smiled to himself as he walked home, unaware that Hayley was watching over his shoulder, smiling herself.
Tomorrow is going to be a great day, they seemed to think at the same moment.
