• Broken and Bandaged

    I received a gift
    from a girl I know.
    A square black box
    with a shiny red bow.

    The parcel was labeled
    "fragile and heavy"
    I removed the bow
    swift and carefully.

    But to my surprise
    eyes open in shock.
    A heart lay inside
    the small square black box.

    Removing it slowly
    it broke into two.
    I gasped in horror,
    "Oh what to do?"

    I grabbed a needle
    and a spindle of thread,
    two unused Band-aids
    and sat on my bed.

    I sewed up the back,
    and bandaged the front,
    looked at my gift,
    sighed and stood up.

    I returned to the box,
    and replaced the heart,
    Note attached
    with simple remarks.

    "Broken and bandaged,
    fragile and heavy,
    sewn together,
    Thank you sincerely."
