-
It started and ended that night.
To those in their homes,
We must have been a sight.
I knew you were drunk from your breath.
Just a woman shouting in the dead of night,
Yet the air was quiet and still, like death.
I know I changed after that,
And my sister cried after that.
She told me she just wanted her cat.
And I held her hand just a little too late.
The experience injured her,
And it was my mistake.
Overwhelmed by sadness and guilt,
I ran from myself,
And from a relationship never to be rebuilt.
And I had tried to smother
All that i could feel and remember.
And you call yourself a mother.
