• I once knew a girl
    Who cowered in shadows
    She didn’t join wars
    Nor fight her own battles

    She just sat there waiting
    Hardly Surviving
    Her stare was not hostile
    But far from inviting

    But I too was waiting
For her to let me out
For her to have to gumption
    Just to open her mouth

So that I could say the awful things
    She wanted them to hear
But all she’s known are loneliness
    And frustrated tears

Sadly how she died that day
The girl that was too tender
    Embedded in her dying heart
A white flag waved her surrender
