I am going to hit my head on the exit sign
Run right past the finish line
Fall into oblivion and never, ever look back again.
I’m going to cut my hair short, and grow it out long
And prove to all you haters, that you’re all wrong
That I may be mean and rude and too complicated
But I have feelings and I hate when I’m hated.
And yeah, I may not wear dresses or skirts or bows
But that doesn’t mean don’t feel all the blows
Bullets, grenades, sticks, stones, the words of words stuck onto arrows
They hit me harder than the food poisoning from the bad milk at the corner store
That, hit me in bed for three days.
Hit’s me harder than the wanna-be winter wind outside
Knocking on the windows
Blowing the leaves around
Confusing the confused who live underground
Hiding their emotions beneath the stones and dirt
The bones of the earth
And when I go to visit, the bones of me.
The exit sign is waiting
But the stop sign interferes
Sends me flying back the way I came
Shaking me with fear and yells
“Look at what you’ll lose
Not just a meal or two,
A LIFETIME, A daughter, a son
Your mother’s funeral, your 21st birthday
Your husband’s last breath.
Your life will be changed
You are young and excited
Do not let oblivion drag you
It’s voice is sweet, the call is dangerous.
Those in the front row? The ones in the back?
They have eyes and ears and lungs and hearts and voices
Just like you do, and some days
They feel just like you do.”
The stop sign says, as he picks me back up.
“Lend a hand, don’t be afraid to make a mends.
I am giving you a second chance.
I am giving you this moment
So, just think for a moment.”
And that’s what I did
And it only took one minute
For me to turn my life around
See the brighter day
Because I know, I know the first step is the hardest
But turn west and chase the sunset
So you will always be bathed in its warm orange glow
And follow the real path for you.
And I know, I know that your legs may grow week
Navy may wash over before you can catch up
Look up and see stars shining, like they always do
Then turn to me and I will sing this song for you.
I see the Moon
The moon sees me
The moon sees somebody
That I don’t see
God bless the moon
And God bless me
God bless the somebody
That I don’t see
If I go to heaven
Before you do
I’ll make a hole
And pull you through
And I’ll write your name
On every star
And that way the world
Won’t seem so far.
