• Sitting, staring out the window of the train,
    she thinks of her place in this world.
    She knows that the life laid out for her
    shows no guarantee of tomorrow.
    Foreseeing her future, she fights back those tears;
    held back only by thoughts of her way out.

    She calculates the costs for her schooling without
    thought of her next meal or ticket for tomorrow’s train.
    Finishing her math, the harsh reality brings her to tears,
    but she won’t accept the unforgiving cycle of the world.
    She has a greater vision for her tomorrow
    And that vision brings warmth to her.

    The train has stopped for her.
    She has no suspicions as she makes her way out;
    with a mind too full of hope for tomorrow.
    To her, the station is stranded after the departure of the train;
    unknowing of the onlooker who will soon change her world.
    In that moment came her realization, thus came tears.

    Rips at her clothes; not only hearing, but feeling a tear.
    After her moment of torment, she lays on the ground with no one to see her.
    Violated, humiliated and ruined. Is this the world
    she wants to succeed in? No, she wants out.
    Following her body, her soul slowly exits the train-
    station, with less interest in tomorrow.

    Spirits are weakened, hollow hopes for tomorrow,
    wounds wiped and no more tears.
    With no thoughts of dreams, she patiently waits for the train;
    hardened with the thought that the system isn’t meant for her.
    There is no way out.
    The aspiring minds of the inner city have no place in this world.

    She prays for a better world
    after this one, for she holds no hope in tomorrow.
    Faith in herself and her God have gone out
    of her heart, to only be replaced by tears.
    Her environment has bound her,
    as the tracks bind the train.

    The cruelness of this world has taken her dreams away from her,
    and gives her tears. With no hopes for tomorrow,
    her only way out, is through the train.
