The MysteryGirl
Five years ago in elementary school I came in class late. I saw a girl who I hadn't ever seen in class before. Her eyes were a dark-brown color like the piano at my house. Her hair went to her neck, it was sleek, and her skin was the color of lemon yogurt. I examined her closely wondering what her name was. I watched her write down what was on the projector.
She wore her hair in pigtails with blue scrunchies. They weren't superfluous and over-the-top scrunchies I see girls with most the time. They were just subtle blue scrunchies that were binding her hair together to make small pigtails.
Tightly my heart throbbed as if one of those scrunchies were binding it. I could feel my hands slowly growing sweaty so I rubbed them on my jeans and tried not to pay attention. It was difficult.
The teacher talked about grammar and proper spelling. My eyes drifted from the teacher talking to the girl who sat a table away. I wanted to know what this mystery girl's name was and soon it began to bug me. Minutes after, I leaned over to Anthony, who was a good friend of mine, he was jotting down notes when I finally got around to it.
"Dude what is her name?" I hissed to him as I pointed to the mystery girl.
"I don't even know man..." Anthony replied, continuing to write down notes.
I groaned and held my head up with my hand and began to write notes. The bell rang for our break and the class all scrambled for the door like we were escaping from hell. Once we were out we waited in a large square for one person to retrieve the "red ball of doom" for prison ball. This is the game we played at recess. Needless to say, I saw the mystery girl on the opposing team.
I was in the zone. I successfully eliminated four people. It was an even game. Our team had possession of the ball and one of the students chucked the ball at the mystery new girl. Surprisingly, she caught the ball! Normally girls playing prison ball would get out the way of the ball or by some chance accidentally catch it, but it was so amazing because she caught the ball with relative ease. She then pulled her arm back and slung the ball off like a rock in a slingshot. It went spiraling through the air and one of the student's received a solid head shot. You could actually see the ball connecting with the student's face and springing off as in a slow motion effect.
"Daaaaamn!" Anthony called out, as he watched in shock.
I too was in shock... I've never seen a girl just peg someone in the face like that before. I actually found it kinda sexy; the power in those arms of hers. Now I really wanted to get to know her. After the bell rang for everyone to go back inside, I just looked at her, saying nothing. I didn't even ask her name; I didn't say anything. I cursed to myself for being so damn shy.
The next day I got to school on time. I took a seat and there she was drawing in her notebook. It was a free time and you could really do whatever you wanted and that wasn't against the rules. So while other kids talked and enjoyed themselves, I just sat there in my designated seat and glanced over to her from time to time.
Anthony came by and said, "Maybe you should go talk to her?"
"No! You're crazy!" I snapped, glaring at him with a fierce look in my eyes.
That's when she turned and looked over at me. Our eyes locked for a second; my heart skipped a beat. I could feel myself yelling, 'Say something... Say something!' I yanked my sight from hers and began looking down at my notebook.
"Damn man... if I was you. I would've said something." Anthony replied.
"I know..." I sighed, and rested my head in my hand.
