[i got permission] "[humanity] it is always between life and death" -Song of a Fallen Angel (journal entry)
this phrase struck me the most out of a poem written by Song of a Fallen Angel called "Humanity". I guess at first, being the person i am, i disagreed with it. after all, how could humanity be "dead"? but it was because i disagreed with it and because it was a poem, i wanted to analyze it.
I thought: well, humanity is people, isn't it? so it is alive, right? but then i thought metaphorically. In the poem, she describes the dark side of humanity. What with all the crime and destruction and such. Then it hit me: humanity isn't dead it is death. we are the destroyers. we are the conquistadors and the savages and the murderers and the terrorists. We bring death, so, it seems completely reasonable to be death.
on the other side of the spectrum, we are life. We procreate, we love, we hope, dream, and try our best to pass those traits on.
In a sense, i suppose humanity is self destructive; however, maybe we could look at it like a controlled burn. our "death" keeps burning away at us, but our "life" will never stop growing because of it. It is our time that we spend fearing "death" that causes us to "life".
As some see humanity as a weight precariously balancing on the edge, Song of a Fallen Angel described it as a pendulum, which fits better than i could comprehend at first. It can swing both ways (as she described) and "it is always in between," and i didn't get it until later that that also meant it wouldn't ever swing farther than it's range.
..of course, this is relating to gravity's rules of inertia and motion and such, but i wonder if the rules that rule the universe can aply to humanity. i suppose we can only hope...and dream and love and "life".
