ok, with valentine's day pretty much come and gone, it got me thinking. well, first is hould say that earlier valentine's week i went and got cards for my family. usually, i would buy a funny card because that's just the person i am. but this time, i saw a card that was a serious one for my parents (plus i didn't really find any cards that tickled me the right way anyhow)
the card basically said that i don't say i love you enough or i dont say i appreciate you when i think it. the card was really sweet. i wrote some more to make it personla, and it went over really well with the parentals.
but something bust bothers me with greeting cards. think about it, we purchase pre-written letters, basically. i don't really mind the 'get well soon' or 'congratulations' cards, (even though i still think they can be pointless) but when it comes to a love card or some serious card, just read it. it expresses love or appreciation or pride or pure and blissful felicity. but, you give it to someone, and something amazing takes place...
they can do the whole "awww'' thing or get teary eyed or whatever. but doesn't that seem strange? the card is not filled with YOUR words. they are someone's elses work that they sold for money. so why on earth do people react like you just made then a personal shakespearean sonnet? are they congratulating you because you could pick out words that a human would sympathize with? of course not.
but just remember, when you're giving your sweetheart a loving mushy-gushy card, that card may express what you feel, but not how you would express it. if i ever get a boyfriends or husband or whatever, i'm not gonna make him buy me cards (well, at least not the love ones) the only cards i find useful are the ones with jokes on them. 'cause i mean those are just funny. ^.~
PS. all this time i've pretty much been writing sorta semi audience semi psychosematically. but i just discovered the 'entry archive' button, and it turns out, some people do read my journal! my audience, thankyou, it's so cool! most read entry: selfish.
