Tall and lean, reaching six-foot-one in height, and weighing in at around at 165 lbs, Kouhei looks as though he could still be in high school, and if often mistaken for being around five years younger than his actual age. Of course, this is also largely contributed to by his childish personality. Besides that is his bleached-looking hair, though the color is actually quite real, it places his age back in the teens, especially coupled with the appearance of a delinquent. His looks don't turn those away from his business either; in fact, he manages to actually draw in customers with his young, handsome appearance. It's really no surprise that he doesn't mind in the least if they happen to mostly be young high school girls. Kou is a flirt to the highest degree and it makes it hard for most people to take him seriously. Very rarely serious by any account, Kouhei is in quite good shape due to the fact that he likes to play basketball, and therefore must be in shape physically. He may not look it, but he's quite strong when he actually resorts to physical action. Just to mention it, this boy can take hits pretty well; in fact, he has a difficult time sensing pain and as a result is something of a masochist.
While he may not exactly have a full blown mullet, his colorless hair frames his face and trails down the back of his neck to form a small ponytail that he usually keeps tied. It is long enough for him to have it down over one shoulder or the other. His eyes might be the only "normal" thing about him, as they are a warm brown color, though it can turn a darker tone when he is angry, as rare as that occurrence is. A small, circular-shaped beauty mark adorns his face, as it is located just to the right side of his bottom lip. While this seems like a girlish detail, it seems to suit his eccentric personality. To add to his teenager appearance, Kouhei also has a large tribal tattoo covering his entire back. He got it done while he was still in high school, and was quite a disaster when his family first found out. Of course, there wasn't anything they could do about it but tell him to never go shirtless. He does now, obviously, and proceeded to do so then just to annoy.
When it comes to clothing, Kouhei wears outfits that are more comfortable than showy, though he does like to look attractive. Sticking to things like button-up shirts, jeans or shorts, and sneakers for everyday where, you may also catch him wearing men's kimonos around the house. At work, he dresses up more; after all, he has to have matching uniforms for the waiters and waitresses that work at his cafe. Resembling a tuxedo, simply down dressed in plain-looking black slacks and white blouse with a pinstriped vest, the girl's uniform has the same top, but is replaced by a black frilly shirt that puffs up. Shoes at work are shiny and black, and same for the female's, but obviously a different style for the two. He also seems to like wearing neckties. Jewelry isn't so apparent on him, though he may put on silver chains from time to time. Black seems to be his signature color, though Kou is also very particular to shades of blue. Striped clothing also appeals to him, as well as gray.
→ sides of me ≠
Getting right to the nitty-gritty, Kou is something of a pervert -- a total dog. He likes to flirt and to have someone reciprocate the interest wholeheartedly. It's obvious he gets a kick out of teasing others, especially those who can't seem to keep a cool head or can be easily irritated by him; like the Dragon or the Cat. Kou especially finds those who have a naive or childish personality (those who blush easily, ect. ect.) to be the most amusing. He likes clean surroundings; very rarely will you see his dwellings a mess. Kouhei is not necessarily concerned with money, though he always seems to have plenty of it, and tends to spend on others rather than himself. Especially for those who are most important to him. He dislikes hurting other's feelings, and especially unfair treatment of anyone. He doesn't like being mad at anyone and can't seem to hold a grudge unless the offense was quite grave. He sees no point in it and likes it when people get along. Not a usually aggressive person, being as easygoing as he is, it makes for quite an unpleasant surprise when his darker side is finally uncovered. Deep down, he's not as bright as he appears to be.
His personality does manage to have many good points. In fact, they happen to be the very best of human nature, and perhaps it is because his zodiac form is that of "man's best friend". Honest and straight-forward, sometimes to a point where he can be hurtfully blunt -- both intentionally and unintentionally -- he has a very hard time being hurtful towards another since it is his nature to help others. A very good listener, he is the one others come to if they are in need of advice or support. He's a good secret keeper -- especially with those of his own. A good people reader, he is very in tune to the inner workings of other people, knowing even more about others than himself. Selfless in many aspects, you could call Kou compassionate, giving, and reliable. Though he may not seem it, the way he tends to goof off, he is quite responsible and always finish what he starts in the end. He also can't help but be nosy. Though he means good, he can be overwhelming in his attentions, especially to some people who like their personal space. He's a worrier, and nothing will be able to help that, and has to keep an indifferent attitude around some just to prevent himself from becoming too anxious and worked up. When it comes to certain things, he is territorial and selfish.
Kouhei usually keep to his open-minded, lazy and laid-back persona, however; there are times when you can catch a glimpse of what lies beneath his calm and fun-loving exterior. It's not something he likes other people to see, and only willing exerts these attributes on a select few for his own, complex reasons, most of them others probably wouldn't fully understand. His appearance as an airhead is shattered when his intelligence shines through. Sly and cunning, he is craftier than he lets on. Cynical, cold and sarcastic are his weapons and he know how to hurt and where to strike -- it's easy when everyone lets you in on their secrets. For the unsuspecting, it's easy to share with him because he seems to be such a kind, helpful and trustful person, but retribution in anger from this man is bound to bring you to your knees. It's uncommon for him to become physical, though it’s happened from time to time, usually in violent outbursts. It's at these times that he's particularly sadistic. Kou is quite stubborn -- he doesn't give up easily. Usually, this would be a good quality in a person, but given the right motive, Kouhei can hold his anger for quite a while.
The biggest attribute Kouhei is endowed with, is that he is very loyal -- to a fault sometimes -- and can let this blind him from principals and morals. He also has an addictive personality that can easily become self-destructive. He tends to need a controlling figure around him -- not that he wants it, be he needs it. Otherwise, it just encourages him to become more of an abuser. In the past, Kouhei was a heavy user of drugs. While this has dwindled down to only cigarettes, he is still very susceptible to other things that can become addictive... like specific people, for example. He seems to have a dark-humored nature and jokes about everything, mostly to hide the fact that something truly bothers him. As bold and direct as he can be, Kou is shy when it comes to love. We're not talking about crushes or meaningless flirting here -- true love that hurts simply by thinking of the specific person. Though he likes most people, there is only a few that Kouhei actually chooses to be with or around. Very rarely depressed, this phenomenon only occurs when he is rebuked by an important person, or he becomes sick, though it's rare that it happens.
→ retell the tale ≠
Kouhei didn't have the pleasure of knowing his father. Sohma Masaharu died in a motorbike accident during one of his many races. As a professional racer, it was his job, but his mother took his death very hard. Masaharu was actually Misaki Sohma's twin sister, so the reason is rather apparent. This happened only six months before his mother gave birth to him, and he was born nearly a month premature due to the amount of his mother's stress. The last thing she needed was a cursed child -- the last symbol and testament of she and her brother's love. When Misaki held her newborn baby for the first time and it transformed into a malnourished and under-developed pup, she fell into a dead faint. Days later, she could still not bring herself to believe that her child was cursed by the dog of the zodiac. Considering the conditions, she took his curse rather well. Several weeks later, when she was allowed to leave the hospital with her son, his curse was revealed. Misaki could no deny his nature and accepted her son as best as she could.
Her acceptance however; came in the form of suffocating love and abuse. It was easy to see that Misaki considered Kouhei Masaharu's reincarnation of sorts -- her only way of keeping a "real" piece of him in her life when she had already lost so much. She cherished him to the point of obsession, isolating him from others and the rest of the family whenever it was possible. She home-schooled him through preschool and elementary and it wasn't until he turned about six that she began to come to him at night. Though she never had sexual relations with him, she fondled him inappropriately on numerous occasions. When he was "bad" he was sometimes disciplined in such a way; either that, or he was struck. It soon became a normal occurrence for him and he even bgan to think it something quite normal. It is uncertain as to if he developed a dulled reception of pain because of her abuse, or if he was born naturally with it. His mother, however, did comment several times that he seldom cried as an infant or child and that he often developed bruises whose origins eluded them both.
Eight years older than the God, he was one of the very first of the zodiac to be born. He witnessed his birth and was constantly around as the boy grew up. However, when Kouhei turned eleven, he was enrolled into a well-to-do all-boy's lower secondary school. He did well in school, getting top grades and everything was going well... Until he entered his third year there and things began to sour. At home, Misaki was without her son and slowly losing her mind. Whenever Kou came home, he's be almost attacked by a drunk mother. By the end of the night, he would end up carrying her to bed and tucking her in. He would always leave before her in the morning and make her breakfast, along with his own bento, before leaving the estate. It was because of his mother's slowly lacking attention to household needs did he become so skilled in the art of household chores. Nights repeated themselves day after day, and Kou struggled with school as his attention slipped. Sometime during this time frame, did Kouhei lose his virginity to a teacher at the school -- already had his personality become twisted.
At the end of his last year in lower secondary, his mother finally lost her mind completely. She attempted to kill herself, though she failed due to bad-timing on his part. Had he not returned home a minute sooner, he'd been fatherless and motherless. After her memories were erased to ensure that the unbelievable secrets of the Sohma Clan were kept from escaping into the public, she was admitted to a psych-ward. During her stay there, he visited her minimally. At this time, Kou was deeply involved in many illegal activities including, and not limited to, underage sex, alcohol, drugs and illegal street racing. He also joined a gang and began to get himself into fights just to release some pent up anger and frustration. He did, however, keep a sense of his justice. A friend of his was getting accused of cheating on a test by a teacher who seemed to have it in for "delinquents", or more specifically, "those that rebelled against his tyranny". He ended up getting transferred to another school and would have been expelled had it not been for the Sohma Family influence.
In the end, he began attending another all-boy's school and was well-known as a troublemaker there as well, though he had toned his delinquency down a bit. He was still doing drugs at the time, and racing, but he was no longer a part of gang-related activity... or, at least, he tried no to be. His time with the gang had earned him many friends and more enemies than he could count, making him a prime target and often getting him into unnecessary trouble. In his final year of upper secondary, his mother was moved back to the estate with the orders of close supervision. He wasn't allowed to live with her this time -- she no longer had any idea of who he was. No longer allowed to even speak to her, he still managed to give her flowers on occasion, signing them as a "special admirer." She has never "seen" him, though they have glimpsed one another during family functions such as banquets. He has never spoken to her since and though he may wish it otherwise, he knows it's the best thing for her now.
After Kouhei's close friend died of a overdose, he quit using drugs. Slowly weaning himself off of them, he had to find another addiction. Currently it's cooking, cigarettes and a few specific individuals. He never drinks alcohol, keeping to mostly tea, coffee, or warm milk with honey, a special drink his mother used to make for him when he became ill. Putting his housewife-like skills to use, he opened his cafe shortly after graduating high school and has been in business ever since. The Akai Ito Cafe, given it's whimsical name for obvious purposes, attracts many customers, especially high school girls and their boyfriends. With a very relaxing atmosphere, it's no wonder Kouhei actually likes to spend his time working there. He also now owns a house in the woods the Family owns -- something handed down to him for obvious purposes when he moved out of the Estate, as it is very hard for him to live at there because of his mother. He seems to be on ill terms with the Kami about his departure, though he likes to taunt the latter with it whenever he graces the Main House with his presence.

Like the rest of the Jyuunishi with their animal forms, Kouhei also transforms into his when he is hugged by a person of the opposite sex, or under a lot of stress. His form is that of a dog, obviously, whose shaggy coat is as white as his hair. In actuality, he closely resembles a White Shepherd dog, both in appearance and human personality. Reaching about twenty-six inches, he weights about eighty pounds. He retains his golden brown eyes.
