Ok, here's the story so far:
After leaving town in the middle of the night and walking for a few hours, Chris and Kat stopped for the night. Kat then made Chris promise never to kill anyone. Then they went to sleep. In the morning, they planned out their route and made their way to the closest town. Upon arriving, they found out that the local bank was being robbed by some heavily armed bandits.
And now on with the story.
Ch. 3
We couldn't have arrived in town at a worse time. The bandits looked like they were just about to make their getaway, and the only thing standing between them and freedom was us. Once they noticed us, they started opening fire. I grabbed Kat's hand and hid behind the closest building.
Kat looked unsettled. "Well now what are we gonna do? They're probably gonna kill us on the spot."
I pulled out my gun. Kat looked me dead in the eyes. "No. No way. If you kill them I'm leaving."
"I'm not gonna kill them. I'm gonna try to make it so that they can't shoot at us."
"How? You've never used a gun before."
"Actually my dad taught me a few things. I should be able to disarm them if I can get them in the arm or leg."
Kat still looked unsettled. "Just don't do anything stupid, ok?"
I nodded. Kat moved further from the edge of the wall. I peeked out. The loot was attached to the rear of their truck. That was good news since it would mean most of the money would survive if the truck exploded. I readied my gun and fired the first shot. I managed to hit a bandit in the arm. He stumbled back, crying in pain as he dropped his gun. I heard him talk in a panicked voice.
"I can't feel my arm! It's broken!!"
The other bandits began to open fire again. I ducked back behind the building and waited for my next chance to fire. When the shooting stopped, I ducked out and shot another bandit in the leg. He dropped to the ground, and then began panicking just as the first bandit did. Then I ducked back behind the building and waited for the shooting to stop again. It would take me forever if I tried to take them out one by one, so I ducked out and shot at the truck. Miraculously, I hit the gas tank in one try, causing the truck to explode and throwing the remainder of the bandits to the ground from the shock. I put my gun away and walked out. The two bandits I had shot had fainted while the others had been knocked out. I felt like a hero.
Then I got slugged in the face from out of nowhere. I stumbled and tripped, falling to the ground. Apparently one of the bandits had waited for me to come out of hiding. I'd messed up and now I was going to pay. Or so I thought. Just then Kat cracked the bandit upside the head with a stray board. He went down faster than an anvil dropped off a building.
Kat smirked. "You owe me one for this."
After that whole mess had been cleared up, the sheriff called us heroes and treated us to lunch. Then me and Kat split up to do some shopping. I went to get tools and bullets while she went to get food and supplies. We met up at the Inn when we were finished. The innkeeper was kind enough to let us spend the night for free since he'd seen us in action. The only problem was that there was only one bed, and Kat wasn't too keen on the idea of us sharing.
"Well if we aren't sharing, then who gets the bed?"
"I do."
"And why's that?"
"'Cuz I'm a girl."
There was no way I could counter that argument. So I grabbed a blanket and slept on the floor. It took me a while, but I got to sleep. I dreamt of the time my dad had taught me how to shoot. He laughed at me the first time I tried since I'd fallen on my butt from the recoil. It was a good memory. Before I knew it, it was morning. I got up and looked in the bed. Kat was gone, which wasn't unusual since she was always up early. But then she burst through the door.
"Come downstairs! Something interesting is going on!"
