Ok, I know it's been some time since my last entry, and I do apologize for it. Summer heat makes for limited computer usage and a lack of motivation to boot. Anyway, here's a recap:
Chris and Kat added a new companion to their journey: Reiko, a terran on a mission to find the wonder elixir and cure his village elder of his mysterious illness. Chris also learned that his parent's killer was headed to Galedna, a town on the other side of the Moaning Caverns. Intent on catching him, Chris got ready to go after him. Upon reaching the Moaning Caverns, the group stopped to rest since the sun was setting. Shortly after Chris went to sleep, he was awoken by Reiko to find that Kat was not there.
And now for the next chapter.
Ch. 5
It took a minute for the news to sink in. Kat wasn't one to just up and disappear on a whim. I got up and looked around. There were some footprints that came from the caverns. I could only guess that someone came out of the caverns and took her.
I kept quiet, in case there were any others. I readied my gun and got ready to go inside.
"Reiko, you stay here. I'll be right back."
In truth, I wasn't sure if I would be back. Kat did say that the Moaning caverns were more dangerous at night since it was very dark. To be safe, I grabbed a flashlight. Hopefully it would scare away any of those creatures. I headed inside.
I tried to remain as quiet as possible for two reasons. The first was that I didn't want the kidnappers to hear me. The second was that I didn't want the monsters to find me. More than likely the monsters were adapted to the darkness and could either see very well or hear very well in here. It didn't help that this was a cavern; sound echoed whether you liked it or not. It didn't take me too long to find the kidnappers. They had started a fire inside the cavern. I got closer and then hid behind a rock. I listened to what they were saying.
"Eat up now, miss. Wouldn't wanna waste our kindness now, would ya?"
"No thanks. I'm not hungry."
"Come on, have a little. You'll want to have energy when fun time rolls around. Heh heh heh."
I had a bad feeling about what he meant by "fun time". I had to get in there and get her out. I'd need a distraction first. And what a better distraction than making lots of noise? I moved away from their camp a bit and then fired off a round into empty space. When I looked back, they were readying themselves and moving closer to my location. I took this as a chance to double back around them and go back to their camp.
When I got to Kat, the first thing she did was hit me on the head.
"How could you not hear me? I was practically shouting when they dragged me in here!"
"Keep your voice down. we've gotta get out of here while they're distracted."
I looked in their direction. It looked like they were still checking things out. I untied Kat and handed her the flashlight. Suddenly a bullet whizzed past my face. It looked like I'd been found out. "Run!"
Kat ran into the darkness. I, on the other hand, had a bit of a problem. They had their rifles pointed at me and I was in plain sight.
"Drop your gun!" I heard one of them say.
I was just about to do so, when I noticed a bucket of water right next to the fire. How convenient, I thought. So, while I pretended to put my gun on the ground, I knocked over the bucket. It became pitch black inside, so I ran for it. I heard the kidnappers begin to panic, and then I realized why. Without any light, the monsters in this cave were highly likely to find us and turn us into a quick meal. I started to move much more slowly. The kidnappers were still panicking, and that made plenty of noise. It didn't take long before I heard screams of agony and gunshots. Although they were kidnappers, you had to feel a bit sorry for them. But only a bit. Seeing as how I was stuck in the dark, without any light or any idea of where the exit was, I was beginning to feel sorry for myself. I hoped Kat would be ok with the flashlight.
